From the Principal
The first few weeks of this term have flown by and we are nearly through May. I hope everyone is enjoying the recent warm days before the cold of Winter hits us in June.
Friday in week 3, MP Prue Car, Deputy Premier and Education Minister visited our school. Read more about her visit in What's Happening.
Last term I was so delighted to have more than 70% of our students attend a morning tea with me to celebrate excellence in attendance. Go to Spotlight On to view the photos from this special celebration.
Attendance every day, unless you are sick is so important, not just for academic learning, but for the social skills and friendships made at school. Each day Mrs Brooke O'Brien follows up on attendance as this is a State priority. If you are having difficulties in getting your child to school for whatever reason, please feel free to contact me through the school for an appointment to discuss the matter.
Our school prides itself on how we present in and around the community. Uniform is a large part of belonging to a community so I encourage you to work with us each day to make sure your child comes to school in the correct uniform. Each student is provided with a school cap or bucket hat so I ask that personal caps etc are kept at home.
Congratulations to Riley, Shelby-Rose and Felicity who represented our school and the Western Region at the NSWCHSSA Secondary Swimming Championships at Homebush.
Athletics carnival - a highly successful carnival with the winning house Dwyer, was held in week 2. Thanks to the parents and friends who were able to join us on the day to watch the students participate in a range of events. Thanks to our Sports Coordinator Mr Matt Tabbernor who organised a great day. Thanks also to our General Assistant team who marked the running track, cooked the BBQ and set out the equipment. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful team.
A friendly reminder as the weather starts to get cooler and colds and other illnesses start to rear their head, if your child has any cold or flu symptoms or has diarrhoea or vomiting please keep them home as the sickness spreads very quickly through our school and can be life-threatening for some of our students. If students present to school unwell, we will call you to pick them up and keep them at home until symptoms clear. Please see more information in Health News later in the newsletter.
A warm welcome to new staff member Matthew Parker who started with us last week. Mr Parker will be the classroom teacher for Class 3 which is Year 11. Mr Parker has moved from the Central Coast area with his family to Orange.
Congratulations to Mrs Kari Priest who will be completing a Professional Certificate in Education (Middle School Leadership).
