Years 1 and 2
The term is racing by as we continue to enjoy lots of learning, fun and events in the Years 1/2 area. Students are working hard on their inquiry unit about persuasive writing. Last week we made playdough.
Students can identify the three main parts of a procedure:
1. The title
2. The materials or ingredients
3. The steps or method
Students are also using topic specific vocabulary such as first, then, next, after, finally.
In RE, students are finishing our unit on Jesus' Story and are now learning about Creation. We are beginning by focusing on why it is important to care for others and how we can do this by simple actions each day. Students are looking forward to taking their learning outside to look at the beauty and wonder of creation outside.
Year 2 students have been working on the story of The day the crayons quit during their story book lesson. This week they enjoyed creating their own missing crayon, where and how it was left behind and the troubles it faced when lost.
Year 1 students have been working on using the connective 'and' in their writing to combine two short sentences. They are also learning about the 'FLOSS" rule when spelling one syllable words with a short vowel sound.
In maths, both Years 1 and 2 students have enjoyed playing the place value game 'bullseye'. If the Year 2 students can guess the number in two guesses, Mr Mellington is going to buy them hot chips for lunch, so stay tuned to see if they can do it!
Year 1 students are working hard on their counting patterns, counting both forwards and backwards by 2s, 5s and 10s, from zero and non zero starting points. This is a great skill to practice at home too. Make sure you ask your teacher for a number chart to take home if you would like to practice this at home.
Reminders:
Please continue to practice reading and tricky words nightly at home. This greatly improves reading fluency and consolidates learning from class.

Years 3 and 4
The Years 3 and 4 students were very lucky to have Jack from Jack's Crystal Shop in Echuca come for a visit. He brought a variety of crystals with him for the children to explore and learn about. We learnt that all crystals come from volcanoes and that factors such as time, the types of minerals and temperature determine what crystals are formed. Jack very generously gave each student two crystals and has certainly sparked interest in some budding geologists.
Last Wednesday, students participated in a Downball Clinic at school. They learnt about the rules of the game, strategic play and how it is a great way to have fun with your friends. Everyone received their very own downball to enjoy.
As part of the Year 3s novel study, The Iron Man, students drew their imagined images of the character, The Space Bar Angel.
