Deputy Principal - Student Learning and Professional Practice

It has been a busy time over the last few weeks at school, and the next few weeks will be just as full of significant events.

Last week saw the Foundation students celebrate 100 days of school, with the students dressing up in their 'oldest' outfits. There was lots of fun, celebrations and counting to 100. The week also saw our Year 12 and Foundation students share a Liturgy with the theme When I Grow Up.

At the other end of the school journey, our Year 12 students had the opportunity to hear from a representative from La Trobe University, who provided information on the La Trobe Aspire Program. Aspire recognises and rewards students for their all-round abilities, recognising students’ academic achievements, leadership and community contributions. As our Year 12s look to their future, many will apply for the Aspire Program which offers students great benefits and supports as they begin their tertiary studies.

The celebration of National Science Week was another fantastic event at school last week. Every day saw quizzes, presentations and hands-on science activities happening, with the students excitedly joining in every activity. Thank you to the Science staff for their efforts.

The ICAS tests are continuing, with students already having completed the Digital Technologies, Writing, English, Science and Spelling Bee tests. Next week students will complete the Mathematics test. We look forward to the students receiving their results in the coming weeks.

This week has seen our staff and students celebrating an Australian tradition: Book Week. Mrs Baker, Jo Oliver and classroom teachers have been leading a lot of book fun in the library and classrooms across the week, culminating in the fabulous and colourful Book Week Costume Parade this morning.

Next week, students from Years 4-12 will be invited to complete the ORIMA Student Attitudes to School survey. The  voluntary survey aims to gather student perspectives on their school experience, learning, and wellbeing.  This information helps schools understand student needs and improve school programs, activities and overall learning environments.

Parents and caregivers will shortly also be invited to complete the  Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey, an annual survey conducted by schools to gather feedback from parents about their perceptions of the different aspects of the school.

Students across our three learning communities have been busy preparing and rehearsing their performance of Shrek The Musical JR. The performances will be in Week 8 and we encourage all the members of the St Augustine’s community to book their seats to witness a fun show.

Our Semester 2 Subject Teacher Conversations will be taking place on Tuesday 2nd September (Week 7).  Bookings are now open and will close on Friday 29th August. If you wish to book a double session, please contact your child’s TA who will be able to do this for you. Please note that this day will be student-free, however students are encouraged to attend the conversations with their parent/caregiver.
