What's Happening In Primary

News and Information from Primary

Finding Nemo Jr Production

Something fin-tastic is swimming our way! Devonport Christian School Primary students are diving headfirst into the underwater world of Finding Nemo Jr., and the excitement is making waves across the school! With coral-colored creativity and ocean-sized enthusiasm, our talented cast and crew have been busy shell-ebrating every rehearsal, transforming the stage into a sea-sational spectacle that’s sure to make a splash!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be conducting interviews and behind-the-scenes peeks with some of our main cast members—so stay tuned as we share with you all the talent swimming in this production.

Cast Interviews

What do you love about your character?

Everything! She’s funny, she’s fun, she’s optimistic - even when it’s a life or death situation. She forgets everything, which is both a good and bad quality - it means she has no fear of anything, including sharks, which gets her into lots of dramatic situations!

What is your favourite line?

When she just got out of a big fishing net and could have ended up fish and chips. Marlin says “Dory are you ok?!” in a very concerned way. And Dory casually says “…Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?!”

What has been the most challenging thing about this experience?

Turning my American accent off (which I was very much in the habit of using from watching Finding Nemo so much) and turning my Australian one on!

What has been the most fun thing about this experience?

EVERYTHING! Making new friends and seeing what everyone brings to their characters. And finding out so many of them can sing or that they can bring other talents to their characters in the show.

Any other comments you would like to make?

I appreciate our set and costume designers and all the extra work our teachers and volunteers are putting into the show to allow us to have this experience. I feel very lucky when I know that at DCS we can do musicals like this!

What do you love about your character?

I get to sing songs and talk a lot!

It's fun being on stage.

What is your favourite line?

"It's just…even if I do get back to the ocean, I'm still so far from home. I don't know how to get there, and even if I did, what if….what if my Dad doesn't want me to come back?"

What has been the most challenging thing about this experience?

Singing songs I've never heard before, like "Go with the flow."

What has been the most fun thing about this experience?

Practicing with the Fish Tank Gang.

Any other comments you would like to make?

I still haven't seen my costume! But I enjoy waiting, it makes me giggle. Seriously no rush!

What do you love about your character?

I love that Marlin goes through so many emotions through scenes and songs. It really sets a challenge for me when acting. He can be chill, sad, stressed and determined to find his ride.

What is your favourite line?

My favourite line isn't that long. It's just a short and simple "cowabunga!" It's just fun to say and also shows that Marlin can be fun when surrounded with good people.

What has been the most challenging thing about this experience?

Definitely the singing. It's not that I'm bad at it, it's just that for quite a while I've been singing in a lower octave and I've had to switch up to high. It's hard not to have a voice crack!

What has been the most fun thing about this experience?

Two things: Learning the dances and stepping into another person's shoes. I like learning the dances. I also like acting like somebody who I CANNOT relate to! It's good fun.

Any other comments you would like to make?

Just a big thank you to the people making this musical possible and…yeah. It's been a fun experience hopping into acting/singing. I'd recommend it to ANYBODY! It's a good way to be with people that are as passionate as you.
