Book Fair

Two of the biggest events on the Library calendar are coming up this term:  CBCA Book Week and our annual Book Fair! CBCA Book Week is from Monday 18th August until Friday 22nd August.  This year the official Book Week theme is ‘Book an Adventure’.

The Book Fair is a great fundraiser for our library and each year we end up with a huge pile of books for the library because of the generosity and support of our school community.

Primary students will receive an invitation for the Book Fair, which has just a small sample of books that will be on offer.  Wish lists will be completed by students during their library time and brought home. Parents are invited to look at the lists, decide which items, if any, they would like to purchase (please note there is no obligation to buy), and return completed wish lists to school (with payment) by Friday 29th August.

Books will be on display next to the school office throughout Book Week, so please feel free to come in and see the books on offer.  The school office is open from 8.00am-4.00pm each school day.

There are 3 ways to pay; online, EFTPOS or cash. If you would like to purchase any items, please return all wish lists to the office by Friday 29th August—all wish lists need to be returned so that we can give each child the correct order. If paying for books online, please ensure you enter the Book Fair site and not the Book Club site.  Books will be ordered once all the wish lists are returned and will be handed out to students so they all receive them at the same time—this usually takes about 3 weeks.

Book Week Parade - Friday 22nd August

This year the official Book Week theme is ‘Book an Adventure’. The DCS community will be celebrating Book Week commencing Monday 18th August. This is a very exciting week which culminates in our Book Week Parade on Friday 22nd August from 8.30am in the JILOA Centre, where students have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character.

Characters should be from a book and not a movie and students are asked to bring along a copy of the book their character is from.

Students from both Primary and Secondary are invited to dress up and participate in the parade. Parents are invited to come along and view all of the creative costumes.

Imagination and fun are what the day is all about so please make the costume for your child that works best for you and your family. Some students like to make their own costumes, some parents like to make them with or without their child’s help, and some like to buy costumes. Any of the above are great—it is all to promote the love of reading!

Students in Kinder C will have an opportunity to dress up on Thursday 21st August with our Little Sprouts friends.

Father's Day Expo

Every year DCS Community runs an amazing Father's Day Stall which provides students an opportunity to purchase a small gift for their dad or loved one.

Our Father’s Day Expo will include stalls selling an amazing selection of funky socks, plants, soaps for men, homemade relish as well as the amazing DCS Community stall which will be full of wonderful goodies as usual.

The Father's Day Expo will be held Friday 5th September outside the Jiloa Centre. All items will be priced under $12.00, with the exception of a few larger items priced at a little more. Please note, sales for the expo will be cash only.

Students in Kinder Copas will be able to purchase on Thursday 4th September at 9.00am.

Premier's Reading Challenge

We are nearing the end of the Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge! How many books have you been able to read so far? How many more do you think you can read before the end of the week?

The Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge is open to all students from Kinder to Year 9 and ends on Sunday 24th August.

You are free to choose books you want to read for the Challenge. You can read books in a variety of formats including print, digital, audiobooks and graphic novels. For younger children, a book that is read to them counts toward their total.  Larger chapter books can be counted as more than one book.

Students will need to complete a log book as part of the challenge, and all students who return a completed log book to the school office will receive a signed certificate from the Premier of Tasmania.

If you need some extra log books, they are available from the school office,  or they can be downloaded by clicking on the following links:

Primary Log Book

Secondary Log Book

All completed log books are due to the school office by Friday 29th August.
