Scotsburn Art News

This term, SC1 are learning about the Steampunk art genre, as the blend of old machinery/engineering objects combined with fantasy elements to give futuristic-looking artworks is a really good link to the SC1 classroom "now and then" unit. In response to the steampunk genre, we are using our printmaking, collage, drawing and construction skills to make a range of fantasy creatures. We are hoping to collect any of the following items if you have any at home to spare so that we can make these artworks extra amazing!

  • broken clocks/ compasses
  • Nuts/bolts/ screws
  • cogs
  • propellers
  • Broken jewellery /clasps/chains
  • buckles
  • Buttons  (especially metal ones)
  • Dials
  • Light globes
  • zips
  • hooks
  • Can lids
  • Old bike chains

VSSS Mega Hub Rehearsal

Congratulations to Oisin who did SUCH a fabulous job representing our school and the Scotsburn Campus on Friday at the Mega Hub. Oisin is so brave to be putting himself out there and participating as the only Scotsburn students, and it is great to see him making friends and enjoying his dancing. Well done Oisin, we are so proud of you!

Next Week is Book Week!

We will be celebrating Book Week next week! This event is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and promote books and a love of reading.  This year the theme for Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure’.

There will be lots of fun activities throughout the week for students to enjoy. This includes daily Lunchtime Club activities and fun in the Library during class visits and at lunch. For the first time at BPS, we’re running our very own ‘Book Worm’ competition. Students can take a guess at how many worms are wriggling away in the jar. Don’t worry, they’re the yummy kind! It’s free to enter, and each student can have one guess during Book Week. There will be three jars and three prizes: Prep and Grade 1, Grades 2 and 3, and Grades 4, 5 and 6. Each winning student will take home their jar of worms and a book. Winners will be announced at our whole school assembly on Friday.

We are bringing back our whole school Book Week dress up day, which we know is very popular!  Dress up day will take place on Friday, August 22nd and we encourage everyone to get involved. There will be a whole school assembly taking place on this day for students to showcase their wonderful costumes.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

We wanted to say a huge congratulations to our hardworking students - almost everyone returned their homework and reading log this week! Special mention also for our few children that are handing their homework in early in the week and not leaving it until the last minute. We know that this can only be achieved with family support. Thank you! A great start to the term!

In the classroom, SC1 have started their new unit of multiplication in maths. In writing we have been practising using persuasive language and understanding the use of pronouns and conjunctions. Our book study on Nick Bland's short listed book Walk of the Whales led to some interesting discussions and connections to the text.

Family groups started this week. The great debate of how to eat a scone. Cream or Jam first? It didn’t last long, like the scones!

A few photos for inspiration for next Friday. 100 days of school dress up!

Have a great week,

Chelsea and Beth

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 this week have continued to demonstrate amazing learning behaviours both in and out of the classroom. With so much happening, students could be forgiven for being a little distracted in class - but not SC2! Students are absolutely loving our current reading work on Ancient Greece and Rome, making lots of connections to current day life.

In Maths, SC2 are protractor pros! We have been learning how to measure angles as well as calculate complementary and supplementary angles.

For Grade 5 and 6 families, you should have all received your camp information booklet and medical form. If you are yet to return the medical form please do so asap. Later this week I will send out lots more Scotsburn-specific information regarding camp.

Have another amazing week,

Jarrod

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
