Swimming and Water Safety Program
As mentioned in the newsletter over the last two weeks, our 2025 swimming and water safety program commences later this term for our Prep- year 4 students and Scotsburn campus and early term 4 for our year 5/6 students.
Lessons take place at the Federation University pool by qualified instructors and run for 45 minutes each day over a five day period.
The event information is now available via Compass for parent/carer consent, along with payment details. If you still have funds remaining in your family’s School Savings Bonus account, these funds may be used to pay for swimming costs, as can CSEF, for those families eligible. Please contact the office for any queries regarding payments.
Victorian Department of Education schools are required to provide a swimming and water safety program to help students develop essential skills for staying safe in and around water. This program supports children in gaining confidence, learning rescue techniques, and understanding water safety rules, which are vital given Australia’s aquatic environment. By participating, students build physical skills and safety awareness that help prevent drowning and promote lifelong healthy, active lifestyles.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK
We will be celebrating Book Week next week! This event is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and promote books and a love of reading. This year the theme for Book Week is ‘Book an Adventure’.
There will be lots of fun activities throughout the week for students to enjoy. This includes daily Lunchtime Club activities and fun in the Library during class visits and at lunch. For the first time at BPS, we’re running our very own ‘Book Worm’ competition. Students can take a guess at how many worms are wriggling away in the jar. Don’t worry, they’re the yummy kind! It’s free to enter, and each student can have one guess during Book Week. There will be three jars and three prizes: Prep and Grade 1, Grades 2 and 3, and Grades 4, 5 and 6. Each winning student will take home their jar of worms and a book. Winners will be announced at our whole school assembly on Friday.
We are bringing back our whole school Book Week dress up day, which we know is very popular! Dress up day will take place on Friday, August 22 and we encourage everyone to get involved. There will be a whole school assembly taking place on this day for students to showcase their wonderful costumes.
