Year 2 Community News

Dear Families,

Welcome to Term 4! We are so proud of our Year 2 students and the amazing progress they’ve achieved so far. This term promises to bring lots of exciting discoveries, fresh learning goals, and many creative adventures to enjoy.

 

 

Curriculum News

English

This term in English Core, we will begin the term exploring Australia. Through stories, pictures, and classroom discussions, students will: 

🔹 Explore the location and neighbouring countries. 

🔹 Native plants and animals 

🔹 Special landmarks and interesting facts

We will then finish the term exploring relationships and how we belong to different groups and communities. This will provide students the opportunity to look at themselves and how they fit in with their family, friends and groups.

In writing, our focus will be on:

🔹 Information reports and how information is share with others effectively. 

🔹 Expanding simple sentences.

🔹 Adding descriptive words to make our writing interesting and clear

🔹 Continuing to use adjectives, adverbs and quotation marks in our writing. 

 

In phonics, our focus will be on: 

🔹 continuing to grow our phonics knowledge using the Sounds-Write program to build decoding and spelling skills. We will begin with the sounds or, ue, l, s.

 

Maths

In Mathematics this term, students will continue working with ‘PR1ME Mathematics’. This program incorporates the 5C’s: Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Confidence to build a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics.  Some of the key areas of focus this term are 3D shapes, Money, Multiplication, Fractions, Calendar and Time and Graphs.  Through a mastery learning approach, where concepts are taught in depth before moving on, our Grade 2 students will be supported to problem solve, build fluency and their confidence as Mathematicians.

Students have enjoyed working with this program and we look forward to continuing in our classrooms and school.

Wellbeing

Students have demonstrated an excellent knowledge of our school values and learning dispositions. We will continue to focus on our values to help our students grow socially and emotionally by encouraging: 

🔹 Kindness and respect in the classroom and playground 

🔹 Expressing emotions using words and calm choices 

🔹 Becoming independent in unpacking bags, organising books, and managing belongings 

🔹 Practicing mindfulness with breathing and quiet moments

Important Dates

📌 4th November – Melbourne Cup Day (Public Holiday)

📌 1st December – Whole School Curriculum Day

📌 9th December – Statewide Transition Day.

📌 11th December – Turrun Concert!- Details to follow

📌 16th December – Turrun Transition Day, find out your class and teacher!

📌 19th December – Last day of Term 4. 2.30pm finish

📌 Upcoming Events: Keep an eye on Xuno for important dates and special events this term!

 


 

Reminders

Ø Term 4 is a Sun Smart Term, please ensure students come to school with their school hat each day. 

Ø  Reading folders should come to school every Monday and students should be reading at home each night.

Ø  Please label all jumpers, jackets, and water bottles.

Ø  Remember to send fruit snacks and a water bottle each day.

Ø  Children should line up when music plays in the morning – ready to start their day!
