Foundation Community News

We can hardly believe it’s the final term of our Foundation students’ very first year at school! We are so proud of their incredible academic, social, and emotional growth over the past three terms. It has been wonderful to see those first friendships blossom into connections that will carry them through primary school and beyond.
Term 4 is set to be filled with adventure and excitement! We’re looking forward to our very first excursion to the Melbourne Zoo, the launch of our Footsteps Dance Program and our
much-anticipated End of Year Concert. It’s sure to be a wonderful way to finish such a special year together!
English
In English this term we are learning all about The Seven Continents, exploring how our world is made up of different places each with its own unique features, cultures and environments. This will be especially exciting when we visit the Melbourne Zoo and discover animals from many of the continents we have been learning about.
We will also be focusing on the topic of Being Respectful to Myself and Others, helping students understand the importance of valuing themselves and treating others with kindness as they prepare for their transition to Grade 1.
In Sounds Write, students will continue exploring digraphs (two letters that make one sound) and practise blending four and five sound words with growing confidence. In writing, they will build on their sentence-level skills to create interesting narratives and detailed recounts, bringing their ideas to life on the page.
Maths
This term in Maths we will explore a range of exciting topics that build on students’ learning from the year.
Students will investigate data, learning to collect and represent information in different ways. They will use positional language in location and strengthen their understanding of counting, place value and the base-ten system.
We will also explore measurement, comparing the length, mass, capacity and time of everyday objects through hands-on activities. It will be a fun and practical term of discovery and problem-solving!
Wellbeing
This term we are focusing on the value of Personal Best and the learning disposition of Courage. Students are encouraged to set goals, take pride in their efforts and try their best even when something feels challenging. We are learning that courage means having a go, learning from mistakes and showing persistence. Families can support this at home by celebrating moments when children show bravery, determination and pride in their learning.
