Year 4 Community News
Welcome to Term 4! We are so proud of how well the Year 4 students have embraced their learning at Turrun Primary School, and we’re looking forward to another term filled with curiosity, creativity, and personal best. It was fantastic to see the students showing such enthusiasm and teamwork during camp, where they built strong friendships, developed resilience, and demonstrated our school values to a high standard.
Welcome Mrs Diaz
Some exciting news within the Year 4 team at Turrun as we have Mrs Diaz joining the Turrun Family. She will be leading 4B as our growing class size is split for the remainder of the year. Here is Mrs Diaz's welcome message -
Hello Turrun Primary School Families,
My name is Tiffany Kumnick-Diaz, and I’m thrilled to be joining the Grade 4 team at Turrun Primary School. I’m so excited to become part of a vibrant learning community that encourages students to embrace challenges, explore new ideas, collaborate meaningfully, and achieve their goals.
As a teacher, I’m passionate about creating a classroom where every student feels safe, valued, and excited to learn. I love helping kids enjoy learning and build the confidence, creativity, and resilience they need to do their best. It’s a real privilege to be part of their journey as they take on new challenges and grow into curious, kind, and capable people both at school and beyond.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my family, my husband and our two kids keep life busy and fun! We’re big on sports, whether we’re playing or watching. I also enjoy getting stuck into a good book or podcast, travelling, and listening to music. I have a passion for renovating and interior design, and I’m always dreaming up new ideas and projects around the house.
I am really looking forward to meeting you all and working together very soon!
Curriculum News
Below is an overview of what we will be focusing on this term.
English
This term, our English learning will centre around reflecting on camp in Building Positive Relationships, understanding Clyde North in Our Local History, and exploring all things in Early Human Civilizations and Ice Age, where students will build their comprehension and vocabulary. Through rich reading and writing tasks, they will investigate how these topics have influenced the world we live in today. In addition, we will have a strong wellbeing focus in our English sessions, using discussion, texts, and role-play to support students in building positive relationships and communicating effectively. Students will also continue developing their handwriting fluency through consistent practice and improve their keyboarding skills during Touch Typing sessions. Our Morphology program will support spelling and vocabulary growth through a deeper understanding of base words, prefixes, suffixes, and spelling generalisations.
Maths
In Mathematics this term, our focus will be on Data Investigation, Multiplication and Division, Probability, Location, Measurement, Mass and Capacity, and 3D Objects. Students will continue to build their fluency and problem-solving skills with multiplication and division strategies and apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. They will explore data through investigations, learning how to collect, represent, and interpret information. In Probability, students will begin to describe and predict the likelihood of events, using everyday examples. In Location, they will use maps and grid references to describe positions and movement. Measurement will include work with mass, capacity, and 3D objects, giving students practical opportunities to apply their learning. These units will include plenty of hands-on activities and engaging tasks to strengthen understanding in meaningful ways.
This term, our focus is on PERSONAL BEST. Families can show what it means to do their personal best at home by working hard, being kind, and never giving up when things get tricky. Parents and carers might model this by keeping calm during challenges, like fixing something that’s broken or solving a problem together. When family members show determination, patience, and a positive attitude, children can see what it looks like to try their hardest in everyday life.
Reminders
📌 Morning Routine: Please ensure your child arrives on time each day. Students should line up in roll order when the music plays, ready to enter the classroom when the bell rings.
📌 School Uniform: As the weather warms up, please ensure your child has a clearly labelled hat and uniform items suitable for Term 4.
📌 Lunchboxes & Water Bottles: Students should bring healthy snacks and lunches each day, along with a water bottle.
📌 Reading Folders: Students are expected to bring their reading folder every Tuesday. This continues to support their learning both at school and at home. Tuesday is also our Library Day!
📌 Upcoming Events: Keep an eye on Xuno for updates on important dates, celebrations, and end-of-year events.
📌 Footsteps Dancing: Next term, each year level will be participating in the Footsteps dance program on Fridays. Each cohort will learn two dances: one year level dance and one whole school dance. These will be performed at our end-of-year concert.
