Year 1 Team 

English 

Our Year 1s have started Term 3, exploring Indigenous stories, learning about the perspective of Indigenous communities and the creation of Bundjil. They thoroughly enjoyed making their own creations using rocks, sticks, dirt and leaves.

Core Literacy 

In Core Literacy, students have continued to build on their sound knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of word structure. They have enjoyed learning about different prefixes and how they change the meaning of a word. Students are continuing to build their confidence in making appropriate spelling choices within their writing.  

Maths 

This term the students have had the opportunity to engage in some hands-on activities involving capacity and knowing numbers to 120. The students completed a task where they needed to create estimations on the order of containers for which one can hold the most to the least. They were then able to test their estimation in the sand pit seeing which container created the largest sand castle. They had a great time working with their friends and challenging themselves in their learning.

Social Emotional Learning 

During our social and emotional learning lessons we have been learning about stress and how to handle it with help from Mr Wibbly. We have talked about what stress is, how to cope with it, ways to relax, and how to make new friends. The students have been thinking of their own ideas and trying them out in the classroom.
