Exciting News – My Brother Jack Short Story Competition Finalist!
In Term 2, we were incredibly proud of our senior school authors. Students in Year 3 to 6, were offered the chance to enter the prestigious My Brother Jack Short Story Competition, run by the Glen Eira Council. We were overwhelmed with the uptake and we entered over 100 stories! Every student who entered showed wonderful imagination, effort and perseverance. We were so impressed with the St Joseph's talent and incredibly grateful that I was not a judge!
Glen Eira Council reported that the competition was the strongest ever, each category had over 1000 entries. While we had many outstanding entries, only one St Jose's finalist was chosen, and we are delighted to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment.
We are thrilled to announce that Abi T in Grade 3 was selected as a finalist in the Junior Primary Category. Abi has been invited to attend the awards night at Glen Eira Town Hall with her family where the winners will be announced.
We are so proud of Abi, please see a copy of her incredible story, ' The Mystery Book'. I'm sure you'll agree she is a worthy winner. Congratulations to all of our entrants this year, keep writing and we will be sure to enter again next year!

Book Week Gifts from Avenue
As part of our Book Week celebrations this year, we were excited to announce a special extra gift for our students! Each class in Year 3-6 received two brand-new books chosen from the wonderful recommendations provided by Avenue Bookstore.
Over the past few weeks, students have been voting on their favourite titles from the list. The winning books were purchased and gifted to each classroom, adding to our growing class libraries of quality literature for students to enjoy.
This initiative not only celebrates the joy of reading but also gives students a voice in shaping their classroom library.
A huge thank you goes to Rachel at Avenue Bookstore for her thoughtful recommendations.
Indigenous Literacy Day
Wednesday 5th September was Indigenous Literacy Day. This is both a celebration of First Nations stories and a reminder of the importance of literacy and equal opportunity for all children in Australia. In the senior school we celebrated by sharing the rich storytelling traditions of First Nations peoples. We also read a bilingual book written by students at St Katherines School in the Northern Territory. The children learned about the importance of maintaining and revitalising Indigenous languages, whilst having great fun reading 'Grinj Det K'Tuan Krok!' Grinch the K-Town Croc! in Kriol. It was so much fun celebrating language and recognising that it is ok to make mistakes. Charlotte in Year 5 said, she enjoyed reading the story in Kriol and she learned what matters most is having a go at different languages and showing respect.
Our Year 6 Leaders did a fantastic job at making the day special for everybody in the school. These fabulous leaders, went to each class and shared an Aboriginal Dreamtime Story and prepared an activity for the children to complete afterwards. A huge thank you to the Year 6's and teachers for helping make sure this was a great learning experience for everyone.
