The Many Benefits of School Camps
Dear Berwick Chase Families,
School camps are more than just a few nights away from home – they are powerful, memorable experiences that help our students grow in remarkable ways. Here at Berwick Chase, we truly value the role that camps play in developing independence, resilience, and strong peer relationships.
Over the past week, our Year Five students have embraced the adventure of camp with energy, courage, and enthusiasm. From the thrilling heights of the flying fox and giant swing to the calm focus required in canoeing, every activity has provided a unique opportunity for students to challenge themselves, support each other and step outside their comfort zones.
One of the greatest benefits of school camp is the chance for students to build and deepen relationships. Whether it's encouraging a classmate to take that leap off the high ropes or sharing stories by torchlight at night, camp helps create a lasting bond between students and staff alike.
Camps also provide an opportunity for students to show their maturity and leadership in different ways. For some, this might be helping others manage homesickness or taking on extra responsibilities with confidence and kindness. These are the moments where young people learn more about themselves and what they are capable of.
Of course, it’s not always easy being away from Mum and Dad, and for many students, this is their first experience sleeping away from home. It can be tough at times, but those challenges help to build resilience and pride in overcoming fears or doubts.
I had the privilege of visiting our Year Fives on camp yesterday and was so proud of how they are growing. A huge thank you to the camp staff, our incredible Chaser team and the dedicated volunteer parents who gave their time and care. Without this team effort, these unforgettable experiences simply wouldn’t be possible.
Warm Regards,
Chris Short
