Spelling Bee
On Monday 18 August, Sierra and Melody participated in the regional finals of the Premier's Spelling Bee. Both contestants had been busy preparing for this day for many months. They both represented our school with pride and were supported by their classmates. Sierra made it to Round 4 spelling words like microscope and skirmish. Melody participated in the senior competition spelling the word domain. Congratulations to both Sierra and Melody on your fantastic effort in this competition.
Kindergarten
Congratulations to all Kindergarten students on attending school for 100 days. We had a special day celebrating the 100 Days of Kindergarten by making crowns, eating cake and having lots of fun in the photo booth. It is amazing to see how you have all grown and are now 100 days smarter.
This term we have been learning that a combination of two letters together that make one sound is called a digraph. Examples of these include ch, sh, ll, ff and ss. In Maths we are becoming familiar with our “Friends of Ten” and all the number combinations that go together to make ten. This has been lots of fun as we have been playing card games where we have to find matching pairs that make ten.
Rachel visited us from Responsible Pet Ownership and brought along her dog Kari to show us how to approach unknown dogs safely. We sang songs and got to safely demonstrate how to pat Kari.
Our class was asked to present the Acknowledgement of Country at the special Education Week Awards Assembly. This assembly had teachers, students and community members from this area. Kindergarten students are to be congratulated on their fantastic presentation.
PSSA Athletics Carnival
On Friday, 22 August, 16 students from Uralla Central School travelled to Tamworth to compete in the Armidale Zone PSSA Athletics Carnival. Our students demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship as they competed across a range of track and field events, proudly representing both themselves and our school community.
Special congratulations go to Hannah Cain, Billy Sharpe, and Archie Sharpe, who all advanced to the finals in their respective events.
We commend all 16 students for their outstanding efforts and positive attitudes throughout the competition. Final results and further updates will be shared once they have been officially confirmed.
Archie Sharpe has now made it through to North West in 100m & 800m in his age group and Matilda Sowerby has made it through for Long Jump. What a fantastic achievement!
Stage 2
On Monday, 18 August, the Stage 2 classes had the exciting opportunity to visit Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre. This enriching excursion was designed to foster teamwork, collaboration, and practical skills in an engaging outdoor setting.
Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of hands-on team-building activities and games. Highlights included orienteering challenges that encouraged problem-solving and navigation skills, as well as learning how to safely make a fire. To top off the experience, the students cooked their own barbecue lunch, gaining valuable cooking and cooperation skills in a natural environment.
The day proved to be both rewarding and enjoyable for all involved. Students demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, and a strong spirit of teamwork, making the most of every activity. The visit to Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre was a memorable and valuable experience, leaving students with lasting positive memories and new skills.
The Opals have been fortunate to have Miss Miriam Gray working in their classroom over the past month. Miss Gray is a Pre-Service Teacher from the University of New England, gaining valuable practical experience by working closely with both the Stage 2 students and the Opals classroom. During her time with us, she has delivered engaging and dynamic lessons that have captured the students' interest and enriched their learning experience.
Students have greatly enjoyed her creative teaching approach and have learned a great deal through her innovative activities and supportive guidance. Miss Grey’s commitment and enthusiasm have made a positive impact on the whole learning community.
On behalf of the Opals and Diamonds classes, as well as the entire Uralla Central School community, we sincerely thank Miss Gray for her dedication and hard work. We wish her all the best as she continues her studies and embarks on a successful and rewarding teaching career. We look forward to hearing about her future achievements and hope to welcome her back in the future.
