Student Dress Code Policy

As you will be aware, our School Council has been through a period of consultation with all key stakeholders of the college regarding the review of our Student Dress Code Policy. This has involved a checklist of activities provided by the Department of Education (DE) that School Council has followed. Following our last meeting, School Council is pleased to be able to share with our community our updated policy to begin at the start of next year.

The key difference between this policy and the previous one is that, due to DE requirements, the updated policy ensures that there are no branded pants, shorts, socks or tights within the policy. Pants and shorts still remain as being navy blue (no other colours or logos are permitted). Socks continue to be black or white (no logos or writing visible). This change allows families to purchase some uniform items (i.e. pants, shorts, socks, tights) at other retailers besides our uniform supplier.

Please find attached the updated policy and some frequently asked questions below.

FAQs

I have some old KWRSC pants that have the logo on them. Are these still acceptable to wear?

Uniform items with the modern school logo can still be worn and are accepted as part of the policy. The implementation of this policy will just mean that the uniform supplier will no longer manufacture new pants or shorts that have the logo on them.

Can I go to any retailer to purchase pants or shorts from?

Yes you can. Just be mindful that the navy blue pants or shorts cannot have a logo/branding on them. As per the policy “pants must be navy blue tailored or elastic waist trousers pants. No cargo, fluffy or other colours/logos are permitted”. “Shorts must be the navy blue tailored or elastic waist shorts. No ‘short’ shorts, or casual wear. The length of the school shorts must be closer to the knee than the hip.”

What are my options for keeping warm on cold weather days?

Students are able to wear additional layers of clothing underneath their uniform for added warmth, provided these undergarments are completely hidden. Students are able to wear any version of the approved uniform items on any day. That is, there is no summer and winter uniform, no gender uniform items and plenty of uniform options to layer items for warmth.

Do I need to purchase all items on the uniform list?

No. Families are able to make the decision on what items within the policy are best for their child.

Are there any changes to allowing students to wear the sports uniform as their uniform?

No. Students can continue to wear sports uniform as their uniform. Footwear is required to be all black and fully enclosed with laces or Velcro. Students are expected to wear their sports uniform for all PE/Sport classes and must have PE shoes (i.e. runners with lace or Velcro) for all practical PE/Sport classes. If the PE shoes are not all black, the student will need to change into the appropriate all black footwear for non PE/Sport classes.

Where can I get support with purchasing uniform items if my family is experiencing financial hardship?

If you are facing difficulty meeting uniform costs, the Help with school costs and fees page provides advice on support offered by the Victorian Government. If your child is starting prep or year 7 and is eligible to receive support via the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund, you may be eligible to access the Affordable School Uniform program through State Schools' Relief. Families may also like to consider second-hand uniform items that is operated by the Sustainable School Shop.

Please contact the Wellbeing Team to discuss support that the college may be able to provide.

Where can I find the school's uniform policy?

All of our policies can be found on our School Website under the document resource centre.
