Year 3/4 News

Literacy
This week in Reading, we explored Possum Magic by Mem Fox. Students examined Mem Fox’s writing style, focusing on how she shows the writer’s voice, and inferred the characters’ traits and feelings throughout the story.
In Word Work, our focus was on the ph and ff sounds. Students learned the spelling rules linked to these sounds and identified the phonemes within different words.
In Writing, we have been working on sentence structure. Students practised using simple and compound sentences, developing an understanding of how these sentence types can make their writing stronger.
Through our regular fluency practice, we have noticed a significant improvement in students’ reading.
Numeracy
Students have been working hard to learn their times tables and have been completing weekly tests to track their progress. We have also been exploring fractions and making connections to how they can be applied in real life situations.
Respectful Relationships
This week, we discussed what makes a good friend and how we can show friendship to others. Students created a ‘recipe for a good friendship’ and brainstormed practical ways to be a good friend.
Interschool Athletics
Well done to all students who participated in the Interschool Athletics this week. You represented our school wonderfully and should be very proud of your efforts.
Reminders
Just a reminder for students to bring in their required clothing for the production by next Friday. Further details can be found on the School Production page in the newsletter.
