BOOK WEEK ADVENTURES 3/4B

This year’s Book Week theme, “Book an Adventure,” gave the 3/4B students the perfect excuse to step out of their school shoes and into the lives of their favourite book characters. From wizards to warriors, Oompa Loompla’s to fairies, the classroom was bursting with imagination (and the occasional oversized wig).

On Thursday morning, the entire school, along with parents and our Kinder buddies, were treated to a spectacular parade hosted by the Junior School Council. Costumes dazzled, imaginations ran wild, and we all learned that Book Week is just as much about glue guns and face paint as it is about books!

After the parade, Grade 3/4B jumped headfirst into some magical literacy activities inspired by the Book Week theme. We reminded ourselves that Book Week is more than costumes, it’s also a celebration of Australian books, authors, and illustrators, thanks to the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA).

Of course, in Grade 3/4B we like to take every chance we get to practise our speaking and listening skills, because these skills will be useful in the future. We have been working on eye contact (goodbye shoelaces, hello audience!), speaking clearly so everyone understands us, showing off confident body language, and using the right voice level (still a work in progress).

To put these skills to the test, our students became movie stars for a short Book Week video. Just a warning: you might need to turn the volume up, our stars were more gentle whisper than Hollywood blockbuster, but I am still incredibly proud of how well they presented. Who knows? We may have the next big TV sensation sitting in my class right now. Enjoy our video adventure!
