Mr Shuttleworth

Foundation

We made the most of the excellent weather last week by heading outside to do some yoga in the junior yard. Yoga is a great way of being mindful while working on our strength and co-ordination. If you'd like to try some at home, Cosmic Kids Yoga - YouTube is a favourite of a lot of our junior students.

Year 1/2

Our 1/2s explored different ways to be mindful, including yoga, mindful colouring, and origami (although I'm not sure if that last one helped to reduce people's stress). Doing anything mindfully is a great way to settle our mind and help us to focus, especially after a busy recess or lunch. When we're stressed out or too excited, our brains can be like a shaken-up snow globe where everything is cloudy and hard to see. Stopping to do something mindfully helps our brain to slow down and makes it easier to focus on what we're doing.

Year 3/4

3/4A had their turn for making Baby Bear's chair. Each group worked well together and problem solved different challenges, even if it was a bit stressful at times. Congratulations to Maddy, Hunter and Kayleigh who created a chair that managed to stay upright for "Baby Bear!".

3/4B did some more work on character strengths. They discussed their top character strengths and looked for those character strengths in others.

If you want to find out what your own character strengths are, there's a free survey at VIA Character Strengths Survey & Character Reports.

Year 5/6

Our 5/6s continued their work on character strengths by looking out for those strengths in others. They watched an episode of Little Lunch and discussed what strengths were being used, and what strengths could have been helpful.

Classes have started on a presentation about their role models and what character strengths they show. We've seen a wide range of role models, from friends and family to celebrities and fictional characters. We'll be sharing some of these presentations in the newsletter over the next few weeks.
