STEM

Thank you to Ms E and Ms Gilchrist for teaching both Music and STEM over the last few weeks. It has been wonderful to hear about the exciting activities and topics covered in both subjects.
In Prep, we are looking at the growing needs of plants. Students are nurturing 'grass heads' by watering carefully and providing enough sunlight. We are measuring, recording and comparing growth rates and conditions. To extend our investigations, seeds cups will be placed in different environments with varying light, water and temperature to explore how growing conditions can impact the growth of plants.
This week in STEM, students in 1/2 classes completed learning about the life cycles of a butterfly and frog. To celebrate the learning over the last couple of weeks, we played a lifecycle 'Snakes and Tadpole' board game and enjoyed some exciting (and noisy) Frog leaping races!
In 3/4, students demonstrated how clouds are formed through evaporation and condensation using hot water, hairspray and ice cubes in the 'Cloud in a Jar' experiment. To reflect the heavy rain outside, we modelled clouds and rain using shaving cream. pipettes and food colouring.
This week in 5/6, students started to explore food production chains. Our starting point was to brainstorm different occupations and roles performed to produce the ingredients of a ham and salad roll. We will be further exploring the roles of different food production stages as well as exploring food origins and carbon footprints.
