Hello to our wonderful Year 1/2 families!
Happy Week 7! Can you believe we’re already in the first week of September? The year is flying by and it has been another busy and exciting fortnight in Year 1/2.
We’ve continued practising being independent superstars in the mornings and afternoons. Almost all students are now carrying in their own bags, hanging them up, and meeting their families out on the stage after school. It’s been fabulous to see their pride in sharing that they carried their own bag to the car, or reminded their families to meet them outside instead of in the corridor.
On Tuesday 2nd September, we celebrated Literacy and Numeracy Week with an Open Morning for families. Students were so excited to invite their families into the classroom and showcase their learning. Together, they explored hands-on maths games that encouraged problem solving and teamwork. It was a fantastic way to highlight the fun and skills being developed in Year 1/2 while sharing these moments with our families.
In Maths, we also set up our very own shops as part of our money unit! Working in small groups, students created shop names, set prices and created price tags for their items. They loved taking turns being shopkeepers and customers, practising real-world money skills in such a fun way.
We recognised National Child Protection Week, where our focus was on helping students identify the safe people in their lives they can talk to, and where they can seek help and support. This included a special activity in our Scoresby Superstars groups.
Lastly, we celebrated the special male figures in our lives at our annual Father’s Day Breakfast Club. It was lovely to see so many families enjoying pancakes, muffins, fruit and even some tea and coffee for the adults, together.
There is always so much fun and learning happening in Year 1/2, and we can’t wait to see what the next fortnight brings!
We hope all of the special male figures in our students’ lives have a wonderful and relaxing Father’s Day!

Grow Big Little Seed!
After reading and discussing one of the shortlisted Book Week books, Grow Big Little Seed, students enjoyed a craft activity where they created their own garden bed with seeds to bring the story to life. It has been very exciting watching them sprout!
Literacy and Numeracy Week Open Morning
On Tuesday 2nd September, we welcomed families into our classrooms to celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week. Students were excited to share their learning and play a range of fun maths games with their families, showing off their growing skills and strategies. It was a wonderful morning full of smiles, teamwork and lots of fun. Thank you to all the families who joined us!
Father’s Day Breakfast Club
On Wednesday 3rd September, we celebrated the special male figures in our students’ lives with our annual Father’s Day Breakfast Club in the hall. Families enjoyed a delicious breakfast of pancakes, muffins, fruit and - of course - tea and coffee for the adults. The morning was made even more exciting with our raffle draw. Congratulations to all of our lucky winners! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the event so special.
Supermarket Maths!
Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as students set up their own shops to buy and sell grocery items. They have been practising using play money to add amounts together, recognise different coins, and even calculate change. It’s been a wonderful hands-on way to build real-life maths skills while having lots of fun!
