Book Week 2025
A heartfelt thank you for your incredible support during our Book Week celebrations! The Dress-Up Parade was a joyful highlight, with children arriving in wonderfully creative costumes – many proudly carrying the books that inspired their outfits. It was a vibrant, fun-filled event that truly brought stories to life.
We know how powerful it is when children connect with stories. These moments of imagination and engagement play a vital role in their reading and learning journey. Your involvement helps make these experiences meaningful and memorable.
Alongside Book Week, our Book Fair has been a great success. Thank you to all the families who supported it – every dollar raised goes directly back into our library, benefiting all students.
Another much-loved activity this week has been “Find the Golden Leaf” – a hotly contested treasure hunt where students read clues in the Daily Notices and search for books with golden leaves hidden inside at lunchtime. The Library has been humming with excitement on these days, and it’s been wonderful to see students so engaged and enthusiastic about reading and discovery.
This Wednesday also marked Australian School Library Day, a perfect time to reflect on the value libraries bring to our students and the wider community. Libraries are safe, inclusive spaces where children can grow, learn, and discover their passions through stories, research and connection.
Many students have expressed their appreciation for the activities this week, especially the Dress-Up Day. I want to extend special thanks to our dedicated library team – Mrs Cherry and Mrs Orzel – whose hard work helped make Book Week such a success. We are truly fortunate to have them.
Thanks also to:
- Mr Bailey, our Head of IT & Innovation, for his help with the parade music,
- Ms Angela Diletti, for incorporating the shortlisted books into her art classes (the children’s work is now on display!), and
Ms Katie Gunning, for generously sharing her treasure trove of props.
Book Week is a celebration of stories, creativity, and community – and it wouldn’t be possible without your support. Thank you for helping us make it so special.

Save the Date – Kingfisher Fair & Open Day!
We are excited to announce that this year’s Kingfisher Fair will be held on Sunday 14 September from 11.00am to 3.00pm and for the first time, we are combining it with an Open Day!
Hello families.
You may be aware that we have begun planning our reimagined Kingfisher Fair. It is a great event for our community, however, feedback over the last couple of Fairs has revealed that you wanted change, and the P&F has delivered it. Traditionally, year groups were responsible for identifying and managing a stall, including donating goods to that stall. We were told that was an issue, so that has been removed. We have undertaken a significant review of the Fair to rely more heavily on external vendors for both food and amusements, whilst still keeping the traditional feel of the day.
There are still many of the traditional stalls that are being managed centrally and funded by the P&F. We are also incorporating a new event, the school’s Open Day, which will see many demonstrations from the students and staff. In the spirit of our great community, we ask for two things: Firstly, that you can please find the time to donate an hour of your time on the day to make the Fair a success by helping out. Please find the sign-up sheet below.
Secondly, that you attend our Fair & Open Day, bringing your family and friends, as this is now truly a celebration of our school and community open to the whole community.
More information to come via the Anchor and your year group representatives.
Thanks, in anticipation of your help and look forward to celebrating our school with you on 14 September.

MHFA News
teenMHFA with Year Eight students
This awesome group of young people concludes their MHFA course this week. They take home their booklets and I urge, cajole, encourage and hope that families and caregivers will take the time over the next few weeks and months to dip into this helpful manual and make conversations happen with their beloved Year Eight.
These amazing students will continue to develop their mental health literacy and help-seeking skills as they venture further into adolescence. The certificates have arrived from Melbourne and are being processed, as I write this – so there will be another 73 trained and newly minted young people in this important work.
To recap some essential parts of the course: we have defined what a mental health problem is; what the difference between a mental health problem and a crisis is; the dance going on between our thoughts/feelings/behaviours; that normalising help-seeking can smash stigma; that learning something new and useful can be fun.
This week, our concluding lessons covered the importance of our own self-care, including sleep, our relationship with food, exercise, socialising and having healthy relationships.
I feel so fortunate to have engaged with such incredible and compassionate young people over the past three weeks.
