Year 4

Science in Year 4

This term, Year 4s have been engaging in a Science Unit as part of our Inquiry and in line with the Victorian Curriculum focus on ‘recognising questions that can be investigated scientifically and undertaking investigations.’  Students have been learning about physical science including forces of motion, friction, gravity and magnetism by partaking in a range of experiments, recording their results and drawing hypotheses from these results. For the rest of the term, they will be working on and collecting resources for an experiment of their choice which they will demonstrate at the Year 4 Science Fair at the end of the term.

Student Comments

“Science has been so much fun. I didn’t believe when we did the gravity experiment how mind blowing it was. We dropped a basketball and a ping-pong ball, and they hit the ground at the same time. That was amazing!” - Zoe

“This term we have been learning about science and gravity. We made a prediction about what would land first when we dropped it.” - Thomas

“We have been studying forces. We learnt about push, pull and magnets. Did you know magnets were found when a man’s shoe stuck to a magnetic rock?” - Violet

Book Week

On Friday 15 August the Year 4s were enthusiastic participants in the Book Parade displaying a range of costumes and showing off their creativity.

Year 4 “Wild Robot” Unit

As part of our English lessons, students have been reading the “Wild Robot” which is the story of a robot called Roz who has been washed up on an island. When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on this remote, wild island. It allows students to explore themes including survival, friendship and nature vs technology.

Student Comments

“Wild Robot starts with a robot becoming stuck on an island but to survive she has to befriend the animals. This story is about connectedness and community.” - Hudson

“We have been reading Wild Robot. I love all the characters like Long Neck, Bright Bill and especially Roz. I love the settings and the adventures they go on. The whole book was amazing.” - Amelia

“When learning about persuasive writing, we have been debating and working hard to create new and fun ideas.” -Amelie
