Inquiry

Question: How do we value water?

Global Goal:  Global Goal: 13. Climate Action

(Summary of Learning):  In Term 4, Year One students will engage in an exciting Inquiry unit with a focus on the vital resource of water. They will explore the importance of water, and the ways we can value and conserve it. Through hands-on experiments, research, and collaborative projects, students will investigate the need for water, how it is stored, and the scientific processes that keep water flowing, such as the water cycle. They will also examine global challenges, like access to safe drinking water, and explore innovative solutions such as desalination and filtration systems. At the end of the term, students will design a water conservation campaign, transferring their learning to advocate for sustainable water use and help raise awareness about this vital resource at school and home.

How can you support your child’s Inquiry learning at home?

  • Encourage your child to monitor the household’s water usage by keeping track of daily activities like brushing teeth, washing hands, or watering plants. This will help them understand how much water we use and where we can conserve.
  • Talk about where your water comes from, how it is stored, and the importance of clean water. You can also discuss the cost of water and how it affects the family.
  • Take your child to visit local water sources such as rivers, lakes, or reservoirs. Discuss how these bodies of water are used by the community and how they are maintained and protected.
