Grade 1 News
What a fantastic four weeks we have had in Grade 1! We started the term with swimming lessons, giving students a wonderful opportunity to build confidence in the water and learn important water safety skills. Following on, our Junior Fun Day was a hit, with an exciting trip to the Fauna Park where students enjoyed seeing Australian animals up close. This special day continued back at school with games, a dance party and a delicious pizza tea!
Reading: We have continued to build on our comprehension strategies and students are engaged in discussions around our weekly big book. They are also really enjoying their Independent Reading time with some students even exploring novels!
Writing: We have started working on information reports about Australian animals. So far, we have explored fascinating facts about kangaroos and koalas. Our handwriting has shown impressive improvement, especially in using dotted thirds. We have also been focusing on extending our sentences by using conjunctions, making our writing more detailed and interesting.
Maths: We have continued to enjoy Maths this term. We are working on the concept of division through sharing and have been practising data collection and displaying this information. Students are also enjoying Blitz Master and Number Talks to assist with their addition/subtraction skills.
Concert: We have been very busy working on our concert. This year we will be doing a mash up of three songs, including Boot Scootin’ Boogie, 9-5 and Footloose. Please stay tuned for more information regarding costumes! Our class will look amazing. 😊
Art News – Halloween
To celebrate Halloween, the Grade 3/4 students are learning a new painting technique using PVA glue and salt. Students designed their own Halloween inspired picture, then traced with PVA glue and sprinkled with salt. We are leaving our designs to dry and next week we will be adding colour using droppers and liquid watercolours. Huge level of engagement by all in this fun activity. Well done Grade 3/4! Please enjoy these pictures of the Grade 3 students in action.
In other grades, the Foundation students made weaved spiderwebs with magiclay spiders, and Grade 1/2 made bubbling cauldrons using cardboard rolls for printing and painted with watercolours. Lots of Halloween fun in the art room this week!
