Year 10 Sport

At Shelford, the Year 10 Sport Program is designed with a focus on providing students the opportunity to engage in a variety of recreational activities that promote both physical health and mental wellbeing. This year’s program was a fantastic success, offering a mix of fun, fitness, and team-building experiences.

The program aimed to introduce students to a range of activities they can enjoy beyond the school grounds, encouraging them to develop lifelong healthy habits. Students took part in a number of exciting activities, starting with bike riding along the scenic St Kilda Beach, where they not only enjoyed the fresh air but also built their endurance. The students also tried their hand at lawn bowls, a great way to develop focus and coordination, and experienced the challenge of improving their golf swing at the Albert Park Driving Range. Self-defence classes empowered students with valuable skills for personal safety, while team games fostered camaraderie and cooperation.

One of the more intense sessions was the boxing circuit, which pushed students to their limits with a full-body workout, improving strength and cardiovascular fitness. The program also included some lighthearted fun with trampolining, where students bounced their way to improved coordination and core strength. However, the highlight for many was zhumba, an energetic and upbeat dance-based workout that had everyone moving to the rhythm. Combining fitness and fun, this session left students buzzing with energy and positivity.

By the end of the program, students not only discovered new activities they enjoyed but also learned the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle to enhance their overall wellbeing. The diverse range of activities ensured there was something for everyone, and the feedback from students was been overwhelmingly positive.

At Shelford, we believe that encouraging students to find physical activities they enjoy is key to promoting long-term health and wellbeing, and this year’s Year 10 Sport Program certainly achieved that goal.
