On Tuesday 22 October, the Shelford community gathered for our Year 12 Valedictory Assembly. This assembly was a heartfelt celebration of the class of 2024, honouring their achievements, resilience, and growth throughout their years at Shelford. It provided a moment to reflect on their contributions to the school community, to acknowledge their hard work and dedication, and to recognise the support they have received from their families and teachers. We again congratulate the following students on receiving House and School Colours.

We wished them all the very best for their examination period, confident that they would approach this next chapter with the same integrity, respect, passion, and creativity that has defined their time at Shelford. We look forward to seeing their future successes unfold.
On Thursday 24 October, all students came together to raise funds for the non-government organisation REACH Siem Reap. During Term 3, we had the privilege of welcoming Shelfordian Emily Williamson, the founder of REACH, to speak at assembly. Emily shared her inspiring journey beyond the gates of Shelford, detailing how her passion and determination led her to establish this impactful organisation.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for the whole school to plan and run various stalls while celebrating the vibrant Shelford spirit. On the day, the sun shone, and students eagerly explored the different stalls. However, the biggest drawcard was undoubtedly the chance to dunk ta teacher! Thanks to The Shelford Parents Association (SPA) for providing the tank and to our brave teachers who volunteered. A special thank you to each year level for their creativity and dedication in organising the following stalls:
Year Level | Stall |
1-4 | Lolly Bags |
5 & 6 | Chocolate Toss |
Card Craft | |
7 | Cake Stall |
8 | Nails & Hair |
Beat the Goalie | |
9 | Lucky Dip |
10 | Bling – Beaded Bracelets & Wristlets |
Fairy Floss | |

I am very pleased to share that our efforts on the day raised an incredible $1005 donation for REACH Siem Reap. Our community should be very proud of this achievement!
World Teachers’ Day was established in 1994 by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to recognise the vital role of qualified teachers in our society. Working in education brings many moments of joy, success, laughter and wonder; however, these moments don’t always happen by chance. These moments require much thought, planning, creativity, teamwork, professionalism, and sometimes a little bit of magic too.
In Australia, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day on Friday 25 October. Here at Shelford, we honoured the hard work and dedication of all our staff with a morning tea, expressing our gratitude for all they do to ensure that our students are at the centre of everything we do. Additionally, the staff were also generously treated to gifts organised by The Shelford Parents Association (SPA) on behalf of our community.
On the day, our Parliamentarians shared the following heartfelt message with the staff on behalf of all students.
Dear Shelford Staff,
Happy World Teachers’ Day! We, the students of Shelford, want to take a moment to thank you for everything you do. Your dedication and hard work do not go unnoticed!
We are truly grateful for your kindness, patience and sense of humour. You create such a positive and supportive atmosphere at Shelford and this final year has been incredibly special because of you all!
The impact you make goes beyond teaching us in the classroom. You support and inspire us in so many ways and we appreciate every one of you so much!
With much gratitude,
Shelford Students
Our transition activities continued last week with those students transitioning to Caulfield Grammar School (CGS) visiting the Caulfield campus and participating in House activities. The students greatly enjoyed this opportunity to make new connections with students and staff and learn a little more about what their school life at CGS will be like in 2025.
Our students preparing to transition to new schools have participated in workshop sessions that focused on understanding and recognising their own and others’ character strengths, learning how these can foster positive emotions, relationships and vitality. The most recent session focused on using these character strengths to navigate the transition to a new school environment and build new friendships. Students enjoyed exploring the anatomy of friendships and created small weavings as symbols of the importance of developing and nurturing both existing and new networks.
