From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
It was lovely to see so many happy faces greet me at the gate on Monday morning. It is wonderful to travel and we are so lucky to have opportunities to visit other places and learn about faith, culture, enriched with history and tradition. However there is no place like home. I look forward to sharing my trip with you all over the coming weeks.
Many thanks to Ms Franca, Mr Reed and the staff for all they did to ensure the school ran smoothly in my absence.
One Night Only - Art Show
This is the must attend event of the school calendar! You need to be there! Don’t miss out. The night will premier the stop motion clips made by our talented students during the ‘Artist In Residence’ Program last term. As an added bonus, there will be displays of art that students have produced throughout the year. Here’s what you need to know:
- The Show will run from 6:00pm-8:00pm and will be in the classrooms and hall. The videos will premier every 10 minutes in each classroom, so you can rest assured you will not miss a screening.
- Given it is a premier, it will of course be a red carpet event and students and families should get dressed up. Walk the red carpet, where the paparazzi will eagerly be snapping photos. Enter through the Hall where you will receive your entry ticket. Someone will receive the one ‘Golden Ticket’ which will win them a prize, but the winner needs to be at the Show.
- Wander through the gallery in the hall and ensure you are seated for the screening in each grade. There will also be even more work to see, perhaps even some of the original characters that were made out of plasticine by students that featured in the videos on display.
- And what would a premier movie night be without popcorn and ice cream which will be available to purchase on the night.
We can’t wait… the countdown is on!!!
Help Urgently Needed
We need the help of a parent or two that has access to a trailer to pick up and return the display boards for the One Night Only Show from a school in Glenroy. The pick up needs to be on the morning of Friday 25th October and the return to Fawkner at the end of that week (1st November). The return date is more flexible. If you have a truck or trailer and could help us please contact us by this Friday via email or phone. We would greatly appreciate the help as our show depends on getting the boards to our school.
Grandparents Morning
All grandparents and special older people in our students' lives are invited to our Grandparents Morning, spending some time in classrooms and then joining us for morning tea on Friday 25th October. Invitations were sent out and for catering purposes, we require RSVPs by Wednesday 23rd October 2024. We also need your support in providing morning tea for our special guests. Please complete the form on the invitation or email us if you can provide any of the following:- sandwiches, cakes, slices, biscuits. We love having grandparents visit so please be sure to extend the invitation to your families.
Uniform - Wearing of Makeup
We are aware that some students from Years 3-6 are wearing makeup to school. This is not acceptable or appropriate and we ask for parents to support us by ensuring that students do not have make up (lip gloss, eye make-up, nail polish etc) on when they leave to come to school and also that they do not bring makeup to school to apply throughout the day. Any makeup found at school will be confiscated. Lip gloss and lip balms are not the same thing and should your child require medicated balm for therapeutic reasons, please write and inform your child’s teacher.
Bunnings BBQ
On Saturday 26th October we are hosting the Bunnings BBQ at Coburg Bunnings.
Many thanks to the BPC and the volunteers who are helping us on the day. We are still in need of more volunteers to help on the day. Please see the BPC page to sign up. If you are not able to volunteer you may consider donating some softdrinks or sauces. To ensure this major fundraiser is a success, we kindly ask our school community if you are able to, to please donate cans of soft drink (Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Lemon Squash etc), bottled water, serviettes, bottles of sauce (tomato, mustard, bbq etc) to be sold and/or used on the day.
Let us know if you are able to help by putting your name down on our sign up page (https://signup.com/go/oMDBTVO) or emailing BPC bpc@stbernardscoburg.catholic.edu.au
You can also support this fundraising opportunity by coming down and buying a sausage or two.

Something to Think About
As all things at school in the coming weeks are centred around art, this article has some interesting information about nuturing creativity.
