3 to 6 Camp
On the 23rd of October the students from 3/4 and 5/6 went to Portsea camp. Many students bought one or two suitcases with their belongings. It was an hour-long bus ride with beautiful scenery, if it cost $400 just for the scenery, we would be happy.
When we arrived, we unloaded our luggage and went to a room called the Nautilus Room where we ate our snacks from home. We were then introduced to Damien a.k.a Dorito who gave us a run down on the rules and a tour of the facility.
Next we got settled into our cabins, they had heaters which was nice. There were a few hiccups in getting our suitcases sorted but nothing the teachers couldn’t handle.
At around 2 o’clock we began our first task in the four camp groups, where we had to do an activity called ‘The Amazing Race’ involving completing challenges around the camp. This activity required the campers to navigate themselves around the campgrounds using clues and completing challenges. The challenges consisted of puzzles, moving items from Point A to Point B, taking perspective photos, dressing up and shootouts. Then we had a ‘Roadblock’ where we were sent to eat our afternoon tea.
Afterwards we went to the oval and played games like Cricket, Frisbee and Ga Ga Ball. We also had the opportunity to read books or explore an old run-down base at the back of the oval. We also learnt to count in Japanese with Rose’s assistance.
Once Mrs. Herbert arrived, we had dinner which was chicken, fried rice and salad. For dessert we had ice cream with strawberry topping and sprinkles.
Our evening activity was a disco at the Nautilus Room after which we were all pretty tired, so we went back to bed. Mrs Herbert was very good at supervising the cabins, we are sure that she was tired the next day.
The next morning, we had breakfast which was toast and cereal with juice. Then we started our activities which were Flying Fox, Giant Swing, Orienteering and High Ropes. All of these activities were designed to test our confidence and ability to work as a group.
The Flying Fox was a challenge as at the end of the line we had to get ourselves down using four steps which was difficult for those who were not paying attention.
The Giant Swing was fun, but we had to pull each other up by the ropes. Mr. E went on the Giant Swing, and he screamed all the way down.
The Orienteering involved our large groups being split into groups of 2 or 3. We had to go around the camp looking for letters in different locations that would lead us to a mystery word. One of the letters was actually a trick which made it slightly more difficult.
The high ropes course was a difficult challenge for some students had a fear of heights. If you reached the top there were two challenges to complete, ‘The Shopping Cart’ and ‘Tarzan’, the latter was much more difficult to achieve.
We had designated break times throughout the day for snack, lunch and afternoon tea. Before dinner we had an hour to practise our plays and then after dinner we had half an hour to prepare our props and outfits. The performances were held in the Nautilus Room. There were many great performances. Dane, Oliver and Spencer won the evening as their news report made Mrs. Herbert cry with laughter. Then it was off to bed.
On the last morning, we woke and went to have breakfast and packed up our rooms. Afterwards we went for a long walk to the beach, when we got back we had lunch and went on the giant slide. Then it was time to board the bus and go home.
We would like to thank Mr. D for organising a wonderful camp and all of the wonderful teachers who helped out on camp.

Rugby League Tournament
By Amelia
Two weeks ago I was invited to Albury, New South Wales to play in the Women’s 2024 Rugby League Carnival. My games were all played in Lavington and I was a part of the Farno Rugby League team. We played a total of four games and we won three out of the four games. I did my best with tackling most of the time, but I was a little scared in my first game because I was finding my rhythm with a new team. Eventually I just got on with the task that I was given, only getting hurt once (My fingers being stood on).
Most of my team was nice and I found that focusing on my game was the key to my success. By the end of the tournament I was very happy with my progress and I was proud that I had the honour of being asked to join such an important tournament.
