English

Our reading and writing lessons have focused on the picture story books ‘Grug,’ ‘Stick Man‘ and ‘Rosie’s Walk’. We have been learning about narratives, characters, settings and events. We wrote our own stories about the Grug and Stick Man characters. In our handwriting lessons we have been learning to write on lines with dotted thirds. We have been trying really hard to place our letters in the correct position. Our Sounds Write lessons have focused on spelling, writing and reading words with 4 and 5 sounds. We can sound out, write and read words like slept, tent, stick, and shrink. Here are some of our drawings, story maps and writing:

We learnt about verbs. We made a Stick Man out of playdough and then wrote a verb to match what he was doing.

We chose a stick from the bush area that we thought would make a good Stick Man. Some sticks had ready made noses which we were very excited about! We added arms, legs, goggle eyes and a mouth. We thought they all looked very cute!

Rosie’s Walk

We have learnt a lot of new words and their meanings. With the Rosie's Walk story we learn the words sneaky, tricky, devious, stride, strut, pursue, trail, thwack!, drenched, soaked, soggy, annoyed, livid, irrate and scrumptious. We used these words in our sentences.

We have also been reading The Folk of the Faraway Tree when we have our fruit time and snack. We love the characters and the adventures they have in all the lands at the top of the tree.

Mathematics

In Maths we have focused on counting forwards and backwards, position words like 'above, below, around, between and over' and learnt about capacity. We made our own paper containers and filled them with blocks to find out the capacity of each shaped container. We found out that Reegan's container held the most blocks and Dustyn's container held the least. We used the maths language of 'full', 'empty' and 'half full' when filling our containers and used the language of “holds more” or “holds less” to compare the capacity of two containers.
