Kiss and Go Safety

For the safety of all students entering/leaving the school at the rear gate, we ask for your help in ensuring a smooth and secure process at our "Kiss and Go" zone. When you are ready to leave, please make a clear indication of your intent to pull out. This simple action allows our staff and students nearby to be aware of cars in motion, especially important for students crossing the road, both on foot and on bicycles. Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe environment for everyone. Thank you for your support and attention to this important safety step.

Kindness Day

It is World Kindness Day on Wednesday 13th November but we have decided to mark it as a school on Friday 15th November with a crazy sock day.  Students can wear crazy /colourful socks and bring a gold coin which will be donated to State Schools Relief (the school act of kindness).  The SRC will also be encouraging their class to ensure that they all perform an act of kindness for someone on this day.

Request for Second Hand Uniform Donations

At the end of this term the PPA will hold both our final second hand uniform sale for 2024 and also a sale for next year's Foundation families.

We are asking for second hand uniform donations for these events. Families wishing to donate can drop clean, wearable, uniform with School Logo to the school office.

Dates and times of these two events will be confirmed soon.  Keep a look out in the newsletter for more information

Lost property

The pictures below show the volume of lost property which we are dealing with at the moment - this is only TWO days worth of items.  The pile was cleared on a Tuesday and by the end of lunchbreak on Thursday this was the number of jackets which had been left lying around the school.  Unfortunately only about 50% of these items are named, so we have no way of identifying their owner. Another 10% have names that are not legible.

We ask that parents double check clothing that their child wears to school to ensure it is clearly named.

Please also encourage your child to take responsibility for their belongings, reminding them to look after their clothing and be mindful of where they place it. Together, we can help reduce lost property and foster a sense of responsibility in our students.

Before and after school supervision

Parkdale Primary School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8.45am until 3.45pm.  Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students.

Parents and carers should not allow their children to attend Parkdale Primary School outside of these hours. Families are encouraged to contact TheirCare on 0436 333 138 or refer to www.theircare.com.au for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community.

If a student arrives at school before supervision commences at the beginning of the day, the principal or nominee staff member will, as soon as practicable, follow up with the parent/carer to:

  • advise of the supervision arrangements before school
  • request that the parent/ carer make alternate arrangements.

If a student is not collected before supervision finishes at the end of the day, the principal or nominee staff member will consider whether it is appropriate to:

  • attempt to contact the parents/carers
  • attempt to contact the emergency contacts
  • place the student in an out of school hours care program
  • contact Victoria Police and/or the Department of Health and Human Services (Child Protection) to arrange for the supervision, care and protection of the student.

Child safety and wellbeing at PPS: information for families and the school community

Parkdale Primary is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework explains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at PPS. It includes our:

  • Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
  • Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.

Our students and families are important partners in providing a child safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:

  • our commitment to child safety, and
  • how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.

If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact Tracy Richards on 9580 1451. Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously. For more information about our school’s complaints process, see our Complaints Policy.

We also welcome your ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing. If you have any suggestions or comments please contact Leanne Bradney or Tracy Richards at parkdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au
