Student Voice
Handing Over the Batton
Article by Romi Andrea & Kenneth Miano | 2025 College Captains
As we approach the end of another incredible year, we are honoured and excited to step into the role of College Captains for 2025. We would first like to extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the 2024 Leadership Team, including College Captains Beckham Cust and Eairn Santos, and all student leaders for their unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to our school community. Your leadership has been a shining example for us all, and your hard work has left a legacy.
We are also delighted to welcome the new team of student leaders who will join us in shaping the future of our school. Each of you brings unique talents and perspectives, and together, we hope to continue the incredible legacy of leadership, service, and innovation. From organising meaningful initiatives to fostering a strong sense of unity, we have big shoes to fill and are eager to come together to uphold this legacy. As College Captains, we are excited to work alongside you to create opportunities that enrich our school community, strengthen our connections, and leave an enduring impact.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce that the theme for 2025 is "Courage." This theme is more than a word—it's a call to action. Courage challenges us to rise above fear, embrace challenges, and support one another through empathy and understanding. It's about building a community where every voice is heard, every struggle is acknowledged, and every success is celebrated. This is read from Romans 12:10: "Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves." It reminds us that as a community, we are called to lift each other up, to care for one another, and to honour the unique gifts and talents that each of us brings.
In 2025, we aim to foster a culture where courage is not only about individual strength but also about the collective bravery that comes from standing together and lifting each other up. Whether showing kindness in the smallest moments or taking bold steps toward positive change, courage will be our guiding principle in the year ahead.
As we reflect on the journey so far and anticipate the exciting path ahead, we are grateful for your trust in us. To the entire school community, thank you for your support, encouragement, and belief in what we can achieve together. We are ready to make next year remarkable, grounded in courage, compassion, and shared purpose.
We look forward to serving The Kings College in 2025.
Remembrance Day@Kwinana
Article by Marvin A, Year 11 - Music Captain
The Remembrance Day service held this year was meaningful and humble. We got a reminder of the great price that was paid by so many who laid down their lives for the freedom that we enjoy today. It was an honour to be able to represent The King’s College as Music Captain, alongside Daniella G and Zandile M, our other Music leaders. Just being a part of the ceremony in which we can leave a meaningful message is beautiful. Our involvement with the ceremony included performing meaningful songs - Abide in Me and The Blessing and the final combined chorus of the National Anthem. I was privileged to read a beautiful poem called "Remember Me", which focused on the memory of the departed and the enduring legacy of those we have lost. Daniella and I also laid a wreath to honour and show appreciation for their ultimate sacrifice. This experience was meaningful to me because I was able to play a part in helping others make meaning of this special commemoration service. The song and music that was sung, the words of the poem, and the ceremony conveyed a peaceful sadness. It made me realise that we owe it to history to not forget, but to work towards honouring what courage, peace, and service mean in today’s society. It has been a privilege to be involved in this event to honour the service men and women who sacrificed. We will remember them. Lest we forget.
