Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

Congratulations to all students who attended the grade 3 camp at Lady Northcote. What a great time we had! Students embraced the spirit of camp by challenging themselves when they were feeling like they were out of their comfort zones, showed great resilience and fostered new relationships. Some great memories were made! Also, well done to the students who showed the values of DPS and represented the school in such a positive light!

The students have been working very hard in publishing their Writers’ Festival pieces in preparation for the upcoming Celebration on Tuesday October 22nd. Students have shown great improvement in their writing abilities as well as showing lovely creativity and embracing the topic. Stay tuned for further details closer to the day. In reading students have been working on their summarising skills while reading about Dragons in other cultures and practising their addition and subtraction skills in numeracy.

Of course, in Term 4 school policy is that all students wear hats, please make sure all students have theirs back at school and as the weather begins to warm up that all students have a drink bottle with water only.

Have a great rest of the week.

Dear Parents, Guardians and carers,

We are delighted to share that Term 4 is off to a fantastic start! The students have returned from their break with great enthusiasm, ready to engage in learning and tackle new challenges.

In Reading, we have been exploring the concepts of mood, theme, and the various purposes of texts. It’s been exciting to see the students dive deep into these elements, enhancing their comprehension and critical thinking skills. This will serve them well as they continue to analyse different texts throughout the term.

In Writing, students have been busy planning and drafting their pieces for our upcoming Writers' Festival. It’s been inspiring to see their creativity come to life as they prepare to showcase their work. We encourage you to ask your child about their piece—they are truly putting in their best effort!

In Mathematics, we’ve focused on multiplication and division, as well as building a strong understanding of fractions. The students are progressing well and are working hard to master these key concepts.

As we prepare for the exciting weeks ahead, we would like to remind you of a few important dates:

  • Grade 6 T-shirt forms: Please ensure your child’s T-shirt order form is returned by Friday, the 18th of October
  • Assessment Weeks: These will be starting soon, and students will be working on a range of assessments to showcase their learning from the year. Please encourage them to stay focused and do their best.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to a productive and rewarding final term!

Warm regards,

PLC5

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

Welcome back everyone. We hope you enjoyed your two week break and enjoyed some sunshine. There was an exciting/ nerve wracking feeling around the year 6s as they head into their last term of primary school. We are incredibly proud of how they have returned to school and how they have hit the ground running.

This week, we are adding the final touches to our Writers’ Fest piece.  We are thrilled with the progress and enthusiasm our students have shown throughout this process and we can’t wait to see the final product next week. Fractions continue to be a focus in the classroom this week, students will conduct chance experiments and from here they will record their answers as fractions.
