Year 9 Careers - Australian Defence Force Visit

On 22 October, the Year 9 Careers students had the exciting opportunity to meet with representatives from the Australian Defence Force (ADF), who visited our College to provide an insightful presentation on careers within the ADF.

The session aimed to inform students about the wide range of career pathways available and the benefits of joining one of Australia’s most respected institutions. The presentation was led by a team of ADF personnel who shared their own experiences of working in the defence force.

They discussed the diverse roles that the ADF offers, from combat and engineering to medical, aviation, logistics, and IT. The representatives highlighted that the ADF not only focuses on defence but also provides humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and peacekeeping operations, allowing individuals to make a meaningful impact both in Australia and globally.

A major focus of the talk was the array of career options that cater to various skills and interests. The ADF offers opportunities in both full-time and part-time roles across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Students were particularly engaged by the explanation of the educational and training programs, including the possibility of studying while serving, apprenticeships, and university sponsorships.

Students also learned about the many benefits of joining the ADF, including:

  • Competitive salary packages
  • World-class training and development
  • Travel opportunities
  • Job security and career progression
  • A strong sense of teamwork and community

Throughout the session, students were encouraged to ask questions, and the ADF team was impressed with the level of engagement and curiosity displayed by our Year 9 cohort. The presentation concluded with information about the recruitment process, and students were provided with resources to further explore career opportunities in the Australian Defence Force.

The visit was an inspiring and educational experience for our students, many of whom left with a better understanding of a career in the ADF.

We thank the Australian Defence Force for taking the time to visit our school and provide such valuable insight into their career offerings.

If any parents have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Luke Johns at Luke.Johns@cewa.edu.au.

Approaching the End of Term 4

As we near the end of the term and school year, the past two weeks have been especially active for students and staff alike. It’s inspiring to see students submitting assignments, completing assessments, and even putting in extra time during recess and lunch to prepare for their End of Year reports.

Our secondary students have also adjusted well to the College’s expectation that hats be worn during recess and lunch, even if they aren’t heading out to the oval. While hats were optional in Terms Two and Three, they are mandatory during Terms One and Four. Thank you to parents and caregivers for supporting this effort.

Last Friday, it was fantastic to see students (with hats on!) taking part in an Inter-House competition during lunch. With students from various year groups, the multi-sport game included netball, soccer and basketball, and the enthusiasm was palpable! A big thank you to Mr. Johns and Mr. Stone for organising this event and giving up their lunchtime to create a fun experience for our students.

In addition, Mr. Stone and our Year Coordinators are organising a special day of activities as a reward for our Middle School students’ hard work this year. More details will be shared soon. Students will be reminded that Good Standing is required to attend, and any significant behavioural issues could result in exclusion from this event. We continue to encourage our students to live by our College’s Code of Conduct, which emphasises Kindness, Respect and Responsibility.

Thank you for your continued support as we conclude another successful year at Salvado Catholic College!
