Socktober

We celebrated Socktober a couple of Fridays ago with great success. Many staff and students wore their funny socks and we managed to raise $136 towards Catholic Mission.

The money raised will go towards the Caring Centre in Mongolia, where children like Otgonbayar, pictured below, call home.  Our students learnt about Catholic Mission and the work they do to assist many people from around the world.

The students made a Socktober Soccer Ball made from bags and socks. The Foundation students, Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4 as well as the Year 5 & 6 students all competed in a 'kick off' in the hall.  The kick off was a lot harder than we thought it would be. Only one score was managed by the Juniors and two by the Seniors!!

Please enjoy some of the images from the day's events.

All Saints & All Souls Day

All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows' Day is celebrated this Friday 1st November . It's afeast day observing the lives of the many saints for whom there is no specific feast day during the year. The following day, November 2nd, marks a day of prayer for, and remembrance of, the “faithfully departed”: relatives, friends and strangers who are no longer living.

Prayer Cards will be sent home today for families to complete and send back to school for a Prayer Cross display so that we can pray for all of those family members and friends who have passed away.

You may have also noticed that it is this time of year we see the many displays of Halloween, a name derived from All Hallows' Day, which sits contrary to the observation of our All Saints' Day. Halloween often sees people, including children, dress up as ghosts and ghouls signifying fear and death. This is far from the authentic idea of  the celebration of All Hallows' Day which is a celebration of all things good.

Rosary

October is the month of the Rosary. The Rosary remains a powerful prayer that continues to draw people closer to God and strengthen their spiritual lives. Whether praying for peace, for family, or for the Church, the Rosary is a symbol of hope and a channel of grace. As we dedicate October to the Holy Rosary, let us take time to reflect on its origins, its spiritual power, and the devotion of countless saints who have prayed it before us.

Throughout the course of the month, I invite students, staff and family members to join me in saying the Rosary in the school Chapel at 8:30a.m. An announcement will be made in the mornings when this is occurring. I hope you can join us.

God bless and stay courageous.
