Year 1 Kangaroos and Cockatoos

It’s been a busy and exciting time in Year 1! During our morning and afternoon circle times, we’ve been learning how to name and identify different emotions. Students have practised making facial expressions and using body language to show how each emotion might look or feel. We’ve also enjoyed reading a variety of picture books that explore feelings and emotions, helping us to better understand how we and others might be feeling. We had so much fun creating our own feelings monsters, with the help of our Kimochis, to represent the different emotions we’ve been learning about.

In Maths, we have been exploring 3D shapes by identifying their features such as faces, edges and vertices. Students have enjoyed hands-on activities where they’ve sorted, built and compared different 3D objects. We also used iPads to go on a shape hunt around the school, taking photos of real-life 3D shapes in our environment.

Year 4 Geckoes and Koalas

This term, the Year 4 students embarked on a meaningful learning journey in Religion by exploring the Eucharist. A highlight was their retreat day, where they delved into the history and symbolism of the Eucharist, the significance of the Last Supper, and how receiving this sacred sacrament brings them closer to God. The day was filled with reflection, discussion, and spiritual growth - an experience that left a lasting impression on all.

In Writing, the students have been on a creative roll! With guidance from their teachers and Mrs T, they’ve made impressive strides in expanding their vocabulary, planning engaging narratives, and using adverbs and adjectives to bring their settings and characters to life. A standout moment was the Golden Egg prompt during their Hot Task, which sparked incredible imagination and storytelling. The students’ enthusiasm and originality truly shone through in their writing.

Mathematics has been a hands-on adventure, with students exploring time, 2D shapes, and data investigations through interactive and practical activities. They’ve also collaborated on an exciting integrated project with their teachers and Mrs O'Meara, designing Canva posters to present their findings. These creative presentations were part of a friendly competition with other schools, encouraging both critical thinking and digital literacy.

Our excursion to the WA Museum was another major highlight. Students deepened their understanding of the First Fleet and early interactions with First Nations Peoples, making powerful connections between past and present. Seeing history come to life through artefacts and exhibits enriched their learning and sparked thoughtful conversations.

The students also demonstrated incredible perseverance and team spirit during the school cross country. Despite looming clouds, the rain held off just long enough for everyone to complete the race. Their determination, effort, and sportsmanship were truly inspiring. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and fantastic results!

Throughout the term, the students have shown enthusiasm, curiosity, and resilience in all areas of their learning. Their growth has been remarkable, and we are so proud of everything they’ve achieved. We look forward to seeing what they will accomplish next term!
