Literacy-Writing

This term the students in Grade 5/6 have worked hard to learn all about how to produce an informative piece of writing. The focus has been on note taking and paraphrasing; which means putting what we have read and learnt into our own words. Explanation writing takes lots of research and planning but we have all worked hard to produce some great work. Here are some examples of the topics students chose to explain.

We have also been busy using clipchamp to make videos that explain a process. Here some examples of what we worked on in class.

Mathematics-Problem Solving

In mathematics we have been focusing on problem solving. Students have worked indepedently and in groups. These problems require us to use everything we know about the four processes and the 6 strands of mathematics that we cover in class: 

• Number
• Algebra
• Measurement
• Space
• Statistics (commencing at Foundation Level C)

• Probability (commencing at Level 3).

   

  Here are some examples of the problems we have been working on in class. Perhaps you would like to try and solve these at home.

Inquiry-Space

We have all had a great term exploring and learning about the science of space. Some of the topics we have looked at have included the Solar System and the planets, the life cycle of a star and space exploration. One of our favouirte lessons inlvolved us using the simulators to create our own Solar System or planet. Perhaps you coud try some of these out at home. 

           We have all worked hard this term and hope you all have a fabulous winter break.
