Year 10 Outdoor Ed Excursion

The Year 10 Outdoor Education Class recently headed out for a fun day of White-Water Kayaking in Wonga Park and Caving in the Yarra Junction. Starting the day on the water, it was a little on the colder side due to the rain that was had throughout the morning but as soon as we got on the water in our kayaks, the weather turned for the positive allowing us to see rainbows as we paddled down the Yarra River, navigating some of the rapids, learning some team building and water safety skills whilst trying not to get stuck on the rocks. However, that made for some funny moments as we would have to work hard to get off them to flow down the river again. It was great to see some of the natural wildlife along the side of the riverbank and also learn some new things about the water and surrounding environment.
From there, we got cleaned up and headed to the Britannia Caves in Yarra Junction. The students learnt about how the caving system in Yarra Junction came to be there and we explored through some water and intricate channels to climb through the caves. We learnt more about the 'glow worms' and some of the rocks and minerals that are in the caves. Overall, it was a great day with lots of fun and purposeful learning.
