Vermont Secondary College

Year 7 (and Year 9) student devices

Welcome to new Vermont families and welcome back to everyone else. Planning ahead for NAPLAN, students will need to install the NAPLAN software on their device. For Year 9 students, the software should already be installed, but if you have a new device, then it may not be.

The installation of this software will take place at school, but for it to be successful, students must have the administration rights to install software. Some laptops may have been set up with these permissions disabled. Can parents please ensure, at least temporarily, that theses permissions are enabled.

Having administration rights enabled will also enable students to install the new printer setup. Details on how to do this will be available soon.

Robotics

Starting in 2025, Vermont Secondary will be launching our Robotics club. We will be seeking to assemble a team of Year 7 students to participate in the FIRST LEGO League, which will launch at the end of Term 1. While the club, subject to capacity, will be open to students of all year levels, entry to competitions will initially be restricted to Year 7s. Interested students should fill in the expression of interest form available in the Compass newsfeed. Please note that to participate in the competition, parents will be responsible for getting students to and from KIOSC at Swinburne University of Technology. For more information, please contact Mr. Chris Paragreen or Mrs. Jacqueline Wilson.

STEM Video Games Challenge

Last year we had two teams compete in the STEM Video Games Challenge, with one team progressing to the second round. Students work in teams to design and create their own computer game. This year’s theme is “Journey”. Students can put together a team themselves or come as an individual to be placed in a team. There is a variety of age levels for the competition, so all students from Years 7 to 12 are welcome to compete.

Contact Mr. Paragreen with your interest and/or questions.
