Junior School

Mr Simon Fairall - Deputy Principal, Junior School

As we come to the close of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff, and families for a positive and productive semester. It has been a term filled with rich learning, strong engagement, and many opportunities for our students to grow academically, socially, and spiritually.

Our students have demonstrated commitment to their learning, resilience in their challenges, and kindness towards one another. I am particularly grateful for the ongoing partnership we share with families in supporting each child’s development  - this relationship is a cornerstone of a thriving Junior School.

Communication and Parent Partnerships

We value open, respectful, and timely communication between home and school.

Should parents have any questions or concerns, we ask that these be directed in the first instance via email to your child’s classroom teacher or the relevant Stage Leader. They are best placed to provide clarity and support.

  • Kinder - Lydia Billington
  • Year 1 and 2 - Stacey Jones
  • Year 3 and 4 - Kristie McInnes
  • Year 5 and 6 - Kim Hardie
  • Learning Support - Fiona McEvoy

For higher-level matters or where additional follow-up may be required, parents are welcome to contact me directly at simon.fairall@trinityac.nsw.edu.au or via 6049 3400

To ensure clarity and consistency, we kindly ask that all communication reflects the expectations outlined in our Parent Code of Conduct, particularly in maintaining a tone that is courteous and respectful. Our shared goal is always to support the wellbeing and learning of students, and respectful communication plays a critical role in achieving this.

Staff will respond to emails within a maximum of 48 hours of receipt; however, in most instances, responses will be much quicker and often on the same day. Please note that staff will not respond to emails after 4:30pm, allowing them to maintain a healthy work-life balance so they can continue to give their best to students each day.

We greatly appreciate your support in modelling respectful communication and partnership - this is an important responsibility we share as a community.

Looking Ahead to Term 3

We are excited about the opportunities that Term 3 will bring, particularly our upcoming Junior School production, which will be a highlight for students and families alike. More information will be shared early next term.

At the beginning of Term 3, families will receive:

  • The Junior School Term Planner
  • Year Level Letters outlining key learning areas, events, and expectations

These documents will provide important guidance to support a strong and organised start to the term.

Uniform Reminder

As we transition between seasons, a reminder regarding uniform expectations:

Students may choose to wear either the summer or winter uniform; however:

  • The chosen uniform must be worn in its entirety
  • Winter uniform requires the correct inclusion of ties
  • Uniforms are not to be mixed and matched

We appreciate your support in maintaining the high standards of presentation that reflect pride in our school community.

Wishing You a Safe and Restful Holiday

As the term concludes, I wish all families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break. This is a valuable time for students to recharge, spend time with family, and return refreshed for the opportunities ahead in Term 3.

Thank you again for your continued partnership and support. I look forward to welcoming everyone back next term and sharing in the many exciting experiences to come.

World Cup

The Year 4 French class enjoyed a special treat at the end of their lesson when they had the opportunity to watch France v Iraq in the FIFA World Cup.

Students were excited by the coincidence of learning French while watching France play live, and many thought it was a fantastic and memorable way to connect their classroom learning with a real-world event!

K - 2 Art

This term the K-2 students completed a variety of art projects.

Kinder students enjoyed the tactile experience of creating with clay, learning about the process of ceramics and producing patterned pinch pots. The students then focused on the season of Autumn, rubbing and printing leaves and looking at the structure of trees. They used different brush techniques to produce their paintings. Classes learned about Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colours while experimenting blowing dyes to create colours and shapes.

Year 1 students explored the ancient and historical artworks of Ancient Greece and Egypt. The students learnt how art is influenced by time and place, depicting special events and everyday life. They explored the special arrangements of patterns and positive and negative space on Greek urns and the symbols of hieroglyphics on Egyptian buildings. Two classes experimented with printing techniques, using a variety of items to print colourful backgrounds and overlaying a black print from their own handmade print block.

Year 2 students observed artworks from different cultures around the world, specifically that from Kenya and Easter Island, understanding how artmaking is connected to place. Students used a variety of skills and techniques to create a 3D paper mache representation of a face decorated with Kenyan beadwork. They studied the stone statues on Easter Island characterising these in drawings and honed their skills to produce 3D Easter Island statues.

Creative Pursuits

Weaving

Throughout Term 2, students in Creative Pursuits have enjoyed exploring the art of weaving through a range of fun and creative projects. From colourful straw bracelets to beautifully woven bowls, students have experimented with different materials, patterns and techniques while developing their weaving skills.

It has been wonderful to see their creativity, perseverance and pride in their work as each student created unique pieces to take home and share with their families.

Creative Pursuits has been a fantastic opportunity for students to learn a new skill, express themselves artistically and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something by hand.

PCYC

Students have been thoroughly enjoying their Creative Pursuits sessions at PCYC, where each visit is filled with exciting opportunities to stay active and try new things. The program offers a variety of engaging activities suited to all abilities, with students building their skills through gymnastics, taking part in energetic games of dodgeball, and working together in team-based indoor rugby 7’s.

The supportive instructors create a welcoming environment where students feel confident to challenge themselves and participate fully. These sessions not only promote fitness but also encourage teamwork, resilience, and friendship, making Creative Pursuits at PCYC a highlight of the school program.

Year 3 Halve Waste visit

Our Year 3 students recently enjoyed a visit from Halve Waste, where they learned about the impact of waste and recycling on our environment and discovered practical ways to reduce waste at home and school.

Through fun games and discussions, students explored the journey of waste and how to make sustainable choices. This learning will be brought to life even further as students visit the Albury Waste Management Centre this week to see firsthand what happens to our waste and recycling.

A big thank you to Halve Waste for providing this valuable educational opportunity and inspiring our students to become environmentally responsible citizens.
