A Special Schultüte Tradition at Lockleys North

One of the most heartwarming traditions at Lockleys North Primary School takes place at the end of Semester 1, when our Year 6 students present a handmade Schultüte (school cone) to their Reception buddies.

The Schultüte is a long-standing German tradition that dates back to the early 1800s. In Germany, children receive a colourful cone filled with small gifts, stationery and treats on their first day of school. The tradition is designed to make the transition into school a positive and memorable experience, celebrating the beginning of a child's educational journey.

At Lockleys North, we have adapted this tradition to celebrate our Reception students reaching an important milestone – completing their first semester of school. Throughout the term, our Year 6 students carefully handcraft a unique Schultüte for their buddy, creating beautiful personalised designs that reflect their buddy's interests, favourite colours and personality. These thoughtfully decorated cones showcase the creativity, care and dedication of our senior students while creating a treasured keepsake for our youngest learners.

The presentation of the Schultüten is always a special moment, highlighting the strong connections that exist between our youngest and oldest students and celebrating the supportive buddy relationships that develop throughout the year.

We warmly invite parents and families of Reception students in classes R7 and R8 to attend our whole-school assembly on Friday 3 July, the final Friday of Term 2. Join us as we celebrate this wonderful tradition, recognise the hard work, creativity and generosity of our Year 6 students, and share in a memorable milestone for our Reception learners.
