K, 1 - Miss Smith
Learning Intention: We are learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour on digital and analogue clocks.
In Mathematics, we are currently learning to tell the time. Kindergarten are focusing on telling the time to the hour, while Year 1 are learning to tell the time to the half hour on both digital and analogue clocks. This is a great skill to practise in everyday situations, so feel free to ask your child to read the clock at home and talk about different times throughout the day.
Creative Arts: Roars of creativity filled the room on Friday as our K/1/2 students enjoyed a special art workshop with Janelle Dornseiff from ARTrageous. Following Janelle’s expert guidance, students created their own vibrant lion artworks while exploring colour, shape and texture in a fun and engaging way. We were incredibly proud of the focus, enthusiasm and creativity shown by our young artists, and the finished masterpieces are certainly something to roar about!
2, 3 - Mrs Orchin
Week 9 - 10 Mathematics: All about Length!
Learning Intention:
S1: We are learning to use uniform informal units & introducing the centimetre (cm)
S2: We are learning to measure, estimate, and compare lengths using metres (m), centimetres (cm), and millimetres (mm).
Year 2 have been busy exploring length using uniform informal units like counting how many ten blocks or feet long an object is, before taking the exciting next step of introducing centimetres (cm) as our standard helper. Meanwhile, our Year 3's are levelling up their skills by estimating, measuring, and comparing lengths using millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), and metres (m), learning exactly when and why we use each unit.
4, 5 & 6 - Mr Prince
Learning Intention: We are learning to measure and compare duration, using 12- and 24-hour time and am and pm notation.
This fortnight in Mathematics, our class has been developing their understanding of time by learning how to convert between 12-hour and 24-hour time. Students explored how the two time systems work, practiced reading timetables and digital clocks, and solved real-life problems involving travel, schedules, and daily routines.
A great way to support your child at home is to encourage them to read both analogue and digital clocks and discuss times throughout the day. You could also challenge them to convert times such as 3:45 pm to 15:45 or 07:30 to 7:30 am. These everyday conversations help build confidence and reinforce the skills we are learning in class.
