Congratulations to Vee, Ross and Kaiden on the birth of Theodore Allen Marsden. Theodore entered the world on Friday at 9:08am. The school community of St John’s looks forward to meeting Thedore when Ms Bacon brings him into school.
Congratulations to the students who recently qualified for the state athletic finals. Dominic, Luca, Dylan and Ben will be competing in the relay section of the upcoming State competition, with Dominic also qualifying for the Under 10s hurdle. We wish the boys all the best as they represent us at this next level of the competition.
We have implemented a number of strategies over the past couple of weeks, to improve traffic flow and general safety, particularly at drop off and pick up times. These initiatives and suggestions are detailed below:
NO RIGHT TURN FROM THE CAR PARK
In the effort to reduce traffic congestion within the school car park we have installed a “NO RIGHT TURN”sign at the exit gates. In the peak times of the morning drop off and afternoon collection we are finding that vehicles turning right into Cottesloe Blvd are blocked by cars lining up to enter the car park. Whilst they wait the car park turns to a grid lock as no one is able to exit. Cars wanting to turn right should now go left and complete a U turn at the roundabout. We will trial this adjustment over the next two weeks to see if it improves the flow of traffic.
EMBLETON AVE PEDESTRIAN GATE
We also remind parents that the pedestrian gate installed on Embleton Ave is a convenient way of dropping students off and collecting them each day. Car parking is more readily available on this side of the school.
DOUBLE PARKING
A reminder that double parking (Stopping to drop off children next to a parked car) is illegal and dangerous. I ask that parents doing this make an effort to drive further to find a space to park properly so that students can exit safely and that traffic is not stopped by your vehicle.
U TURNS ON KINGBIRD AVE
Making U Turn or 3 point turns on Kingbird Ave during peak times with cars parked on each side of the road is also causing frustration within the community. Please drive further up the road or drive around the block if you need to return home in the opposite direction to which you have parked.
Extracurricular activities provide children with an opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends and be part of the wider Community. Involvement in these activities can provide a balance to the academic skills we focus on during the day at school. Below are two extracurricular activities families may be interested in:
STAGE SCHOOL
Stage School Australia, is a performing arts school for young people aged 4-18 years. They are offering singing, dancing and drama classes in over 24 venues across Melbourne. These classes encourage confidence, communication skills, co-operation, and creativity. Should you be interested please see the flyer below.
WERRIBEE LITTLE ATHLETICS
Any families interested in their child participating in Little Athletics should view the flyer below.
We ask any families who are considering moving house or changing their child’s school in 2024, to contact the office. Please be assured that should your plans change, it will in no way affect your child’s placement for next year.
The Linewize platform helps schools, students and families to develop better digital habits, while also monitoring and tracking digital usages. With St John’s now working in partnership with Linewize, our parents have access to an Online Safety Parent Hub, via the school’s website. This Hub has a wealth of tips and information for families. As part of our partnership with Linewize our families will be able to access two licences from Qustodio to apply to their children’s devices, this could include, phones, iPads, tablets or computers. Your Qustodio account will be activated via our School’s Online Safety Hub, with Qustodio going live next week. Families who have registered their interest to be part of this program, can visit the St John’s Online Safety Hub using the link below:
Last term we launched our St John’s Instagram page. To follow us search @stjatarneit on instagram. Recently we highlighted our camp stories and you can check them out under our profile.
