Celebrating Our Achievements and Welcoming the Future at MGC

Principal's Report

Firstly, to our senior students in the middle of their VCE exams, your measure and sense of determination have not gone unnoticed. The way in which you have embraced the challenge is a tribute to your meticulous planning.

You are in the midst of one of the most significant milestones of your academic journey, and the strength of character and resilience you have shown thus far is nothing short of commendable. We are all standing with you.

Our VCE Art, Design and Media Exhibition was a window into the incredible talent of so many students. The exceptional displays were a union of creativity, thought, and technique, making us immensely proud. The artists, their mentors, and everyone involved deserve high praise for such a compelling and inspiring event. I want to congratulate Julia Wang of Year 12, who was selected as an award winner in the 2023 Young Australian Art Awards for not one, but two amazing artworks titled Still Life of the Miscellaneous and Ethereal. Both artworks are oil paintings, and they can be seen below. They are truly Incredible.

The seamless Course Confirmation Process led by our Administration Team speaks volumes about the collaborative spirit of our staff and the proactive engagement of our families. For this we thank you. Ensuring a smooth transition for our students as they confirm courses in preparation for 2024 is pivotal for their academic journey, and I am pleased with the efficiency with which this has been accomplished.

As the academic year begins to wind down in a few weeks, our Year 7 to 9 students can look forward to an engaging End of Year Program. This will be a time to consolidate learning, reflect on the year's experiences, and participate in enriching activities that foster new connections and skills. It's a celebration of their achievements and a stepping stone to the challenges and opportunities of the next year.

Senior years are crucial and getting a 'headstart' significantly impacts our students' success. Our Headstart Program which will launch in a few weeks is designed to provide senior students with a preview of their next year's curriculum and expectations.  This program is an indication of our continued commitment to excellence, promotion of teamwork and celebration of our diversity across our community and provides our students with the confidence they need to shine in their senior years.

Real-world experience stands as one of the most valuable assets in our educational toolkit. It is the bridge that connects theoretical learning with practical application and our Year 10 students in a few weeks will embark on their week-long work experience program. We wish them well.

The anticipation is building for the arrival of our 2024 cohort. Our upcoming Orientation Day is being meticulously planned to ensure a warm and engaging welcome for our new students and families. This day marks the beginning of another exciting chapter for MGC.

As we approach Saturday, 11 November, I encourage the MGC community to take a moment to reflect on the significance of Remembrance Day. This is a poignant time to remember and honour the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. I encourage each one of us to observe a minute of silence at 11am, reflecting on the freedoms and peace we enjoy today because of those who have given so much. Let us wear our poppies with pride and gratitude.
