Spelling Bee

The spelling bee was a real buzz (pun intended). It was amazing to see how the junior school representatives from each class strained their brains to spell some extremely challenging words like ‘delinquent’, ‘laryngitis’ and ‘lackadaisical.’*

The judges were very impressed to see such a stellar line up of expert spellers and also witness how much support they gave each other. A huge thank you to Ms Maniatis for organising the 2023 Bee with special attention to every minute detail, ensuring the event was a roaring success and a joyous celebration of student excellence.

Also appreciation in spades to Mr Lou for hosting the event with such enthusiasm and his trade-mark wicked sense of humour. Thank you also to our excellent judges Mr Hamer-Smith, Oli Thomas (9C) and Ms Fisher. Finally thank you also to the SRC for promoting this event in the junior school and to Oli again for designing the promotional poster.

Congratulations to the winner Krish Hangagal (7B) and runners up Boris Tosovic (9B) and Stanislas Gaudey (7A).

We are looking forward to seeing if Krish can retain the title of Supreme Spelling Machine in 2024, in the meantime we urge you all to crack open your dictionaries and start training your brains to be ready to compete next year.

*If you say that someone is lackadaisical, you mean that they are rather lazy and do not show much interest or enthusiasm in what they do, which is the opposite of what our spelling bee competitors were, they were not at all lackadaisical, in fact they were pretty amazing!
