Getting Dramatic

What do you do in Secondary Drama

It is with immense joy and gratitude that I, Mr Tristan Forrest, your drama teacher for Years 7, 8, and 9/10, take this opportunity to share the incredible journey we have embarked on this year. Within the nurturing embrace of Mount Evelyn Christian School, we have woven the enchanting tapestry of drama education infused with the profound understanding that God has uniquely created each of us to perform and be comfortable in the person He has lovingly designed.

The Stage is Set: Drama in God's Light

Our drama program has been thoughtfully designed to not only inspire creativity and confidence but also to resonate with the truth that God has endowed each one of us with special gifts. We've structured each lesson as an exploration of God's gift of creativity and performance.

A Lesson of Grace and Inspiration

The foundation of our drama lessons starts with a source of inspiration. In every class, we begin with an uplifting or humorous video that showcases acting and improvisational skills. This not only sets a joyful and imaginative tone but also underlines the potential for creativity, given to us by our Creator.

Unity in Diversity: Warming Hearts and Spirits

Following the inspiration, we delve into a group warm-up activity and game. These activities serve to energize our bodies, but more importantly, they create a sense of unity and togetherness, reflecting the love and support that is at the heart of our Christian community. We believe that drama is not just about individual performances but also about the harmony of working together as one body.

Embracing Spontaneity: The Joy of Improvisation

The heartbeat of our drama classes lies in improvisational games. These activities encourage students to embrace spontaneity, rely on their instincts, and trust their creativity, much like the trust we place in God. The laughter and moments of revelation in these games are truly divine.

Bringing Faith and Creativity Together: The Weekly and Unit Tasks

As we journey through the year, our students are given the opportunity to participate in weekly or unit tasks that encapsulate all they've learned. These tasks not only showcase their creativity but also their growing self-confidence. As children of God, it's crucial that we understand and believe in the unique gifts He has granted us, and this is a step toward recognizing the greatness within each of us.

A Blessing of Growth and Transformation

This year, we've witnessed incredible growth and transformation in our young performers. Drama is a powerful tool for personal growth, for building confidence, and for a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world God created. Our students have learned to embrace their emotions, their creativity, and the divine spark within them.
