Make a Joyful Noise

Music at MECS

Vet Music Performance

On Wednesday 11 October we celebrated our Year 11 and 12 VCE VET Music Performance students by having an informal concert on the Basketball Court. This was the final in-school assessed performance for the students, and for the Year 12s it was the warm-up to their external performance exam a week later.

Friends and family of the students enjoyed a relaxed program of music in a variety of styles that included jazz, indie folk, and pop as well as some wonderful original compositions. For the teachers this was the culmination of a year of working with these wonderful students, helping them explore their creative giftings, overcoming challenges and seeing them develop into confident performers with their own personal style.

The weather was something of a mixed blessing; warm and balmy but also very windy so everything had to be fixed down with extra care but we had no escaping sheet music on this occasion thanks to plenty of duct tape and clothes pegs which every self-respecting musician learns to keep in their instrument case!

We were fed by our wonderful Mrs Woolard who ran a sausage sizzle for us, which – apart from making us feel like we were at Bunnings – tantalised our tastebuds, and then brought around ice-creams. It really did feel like we were enjoying a summer evening’s entertainment.

We are so very proud of our VCE VET music students, and this year’s Year 12 cohort is the first one to go through MECS instead of having to go to another provider. To have performances of such a high standard shows what a wealth of student talent we have in our community and we will always want to celebrate how God has blessed the students and provided opportunities for them to share it.
