From the Acting Principal

Term 4 Week 6

Hi all Parents and Carers,

The PFOL Obstacle Course Run is happening in the yard as this newsletter goes live.

We look forward to sharing an update about how it went and will add lots of photos of the Obstacle Course Run to next week's newsletter. Now the children have had their fun, the next exciting PFOL event is the parents only lawn bowls on Sunday November 19th, make sure you get involved if you haven’t already.

I have attached a message from Marwin Austerberry and Father Michael below regarding the appointment of the new principal for OLHC starting in 2024.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware there has been a Local Selection Panel involved in the appointment of a new Principal. We would like to announce that Mr Rudolph (Rudy) Vail, has been appointed as Principal, Our Lady Help of Christians,  Eltham. Mr Vail is an experienced educator and leader and he is currently the Deputy Principal, St Richard's Primary School, Kilsyth.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Mark Pinkerton for his leadership this year and to the Leadership Team, staff and community for their ongoing support.

We are sure that you will join us in congratulating  Mr Vail  and extending to him every best wish as he takes up the role of Principal in 2024.

Prep 2024 First Transition Session

We welcomed our 2024 Prep students and their families to the first of our Prep Transition sessions on Wednesday 8th of November. It was a great opportunity for our new parents to make some connections with our existing families. The new Preps were very enthusiastic and headed off to the Prep classroom for a session of fun activities, which they were very excited to show off and talk about when they came back to their parents. The parents spent the time with members of the leadership team who shared information about the learning practices at the school. We look forward to having all our 2024 Preps back with us for another two sessions.

School Advisory Council AGM Reminder

The School Advisory Council (SAC) has scheduled its AGM for Tuesday 21st November at 7:00 pm in the school Staff Room.

Each year at this time, we put a call out for parents interested in joining the SAC for 2024. This group meets eight to nine times a year and acts as a sounding board, providing an advisory body for the school principal. The following are some ways the SAC supports the school and the principal:

  • Promoting the school’s Catholic ethos and culture
  • Capital resource planning and maintenance
  • Giving advice on issues such as enrolments, school improvement plans and enrolment trends
  • Engaging in discussion about the annual school budget and other financial matters.

For those interested in further information you can find a more detailed explanation in the

School Advisory Council Terms of Reference.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the School Advisory Council may seek advice from the school principal, chair (Kate Lewis) or another member of the council.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the SAC for their efforts this year - chair Kate Lewis; deputy chair Mark Lafferty; and secretary Mary Karolyi, Catherine Donoghue, Kristy Williams and Sharon Walker have been a great team this year.

Events

On Friday 10th November we held a short Remembrance Day Liturgy at 10:30 am for all the students. Our Senior students lead us in a service to acknowledge those who have died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

After all the fun of the Obstacle Run today I look forward to seeing some of you at the working bee between 2 and 5 pm on Saturday November 11th (tomorrow).

Regards,

Mark Pinkerton

Acting Principal
