Japanese Junior MasterChef

On November the 14th Year 7 Japanese classes participated in the college’s annual Junior MasterChef competition.

The participants worked extremely hard to prepare authentic Japanese dishes to share with the judging panel. The dishes were judged on the taste, presentation and the student’s knowledge and explanation of their dish. The students did not disappoint and made the job of the judging panel very difficult!

The following students were recognised for their participation and creation of an outstanding and authentic Japanese dish:

Richard: Karage (Japanese Fried Chicken)

Destin: Sushi

Asher: Cheesecake

Maya: Ramen

Max: Karage (Japanese Fried Chicken)

Eli: Sushi

The following students were recognised for preparing the top 3 dishes of the day:

1st Ash: Mochi IceCream and Dango

2nd Misono: Okonomiyaki

3rd Oakley: Onigiri

Congratulations to all students that participated!

Indonesian City Excursion

On Wednesday the 8th of November, the year 9 and 10 Indonesian students caught the train to the city. We went to an Indonesian cuisine restaurant named Pondok Rempah and tried some famous Indonesian dishes. After the meal, we walked to an Asian supermarket and completed an Indonesian scavenger hunt.

At Pondok Rempah, we were treated to an assortment of their traditional Indonesian meals. We sampled an Indonesian drink, cendol, made with coconut milk and green jellies. We got to try some delicious sate ayam (satay chicken) with peanut sauce as our entrée. For our main course we were served nasi goreng (fried rice) and mie goreng (fried noodles). All of the meals were well prepared and flavoursome.

We then visited an Asian supermarket called Laguna QV. We were given an activity written in Indonesian to complete. The grocer was full of interesting foods and other ingredients. Once we completed the scavenger hunt, we made our way back to Southern Cross to take the train home.

We learnt a lot about Indonesian culture on this interesting trip and it was a great opportunity to put our language skills to use. We all enjoyed this excursion, and we would like to thank Bu Ezzy, Pak Macnamara and Miss Quarrier for this great experience.
