A note from Mr Jackson

Disability Inclusion

Over the last week and coming weeks we have released our staff from their responsibilities to build their capacity in meeting the diverse needs of students with disabilities. While this has resulted in some disruption for students, this has been minimised by using casual staff that are familiar with the school. With the provision of further funding in 2024, we will continue to provide an inclusive space for students as they engage with the curriculum.

2024 Prep Orientation on Friday

The 2024 Preps will enjoy their second orientation tomorrow. This is a valuable time for not only our new Prep cohort to get to know each other, but also their parents. Staff have already started visiting kindergarten centers to support the transition process. We look forward to getting to know our new families through the weeks ahead.

Early Holiday Requests

Thanks to those families who have sought approval for the early release of students for end of year holidays. With the compulsory nature of education in Australia, I encourage anyone who is considering an early end to the school year to send through a letter seeking such approval prior to their departure. This is not only important requirement to meet legislation, but also provides class communities and friends to say an ‘end of year’ goodbye.

World Teacher’s Day

A special luncheon was held on Wednesday to celebrate World Teachers’ Day. Teachers draped themselves in capes and crowns and we were all reminded of the importance of gratitude for the actions and efforts that impact our community. I encourage our parents and students to see World Teachers’ Day as an opportunity to pass on their gratitude for the remarkable work that teachers do across our community.

Our School Fair Gains Pace!

Signage has appeared around our community and a range of callouts have been made for volunteers and bits and pieces to support the day. I encourage you to not only ensure your presence on the day, but consider how you can support the incredible group of volunteers prior to and on the day. Without such effort our fair could not go ahead.

Working Bee Coming Up

Saturday, 11 November is a day the facilities team have set aside to clean up the yard to ensure that it is looking good for the School Fair on the following week. Come to prune, clear drains, stain benches and prepare for a wonderful celebration of community.

Year 1 Dinner and Year 2 Snooze this Friday

There is a layer of excitement across the 1/2 Learning Area as they prepare for an adventure on Friday night. The dinner and sleepover is part of the camping program at Rosanna Primary School that steps students towards independence as they move through each year level. Some will enjoy the pizza, others the magic show or movie, but often it’s the night walk that proves the highlight. Thanks to our staff again for their availability in attending and organising the event.

REMINDER: 2024 Student Class Placement

As mentioned over the last two weeks, we invite parents to share their thoughts and information which may affect their child’s class placement for the following year.

The process of placing students into new classes is both complex and layered. A whole range of interconnected factors go into decision making. These factors include; academic performance, social and emotional development, behaviour, independence, relational groups, student history, as well as student and parental suggestions. The focus on shaping classes for the coming year is always on building connected communities that are balanced throughout the whole school and support the needs of all students.

1. Students’ Learning Friends

This week, students are invited to create a group of five Learning Friends for the coming year. We will do everything we can to ensure that each student has at least one learning friend in their 2024 class. This list of friendships will be sent home this week with students so that parents can have input and share in the discussion with students. Parents are asked to discuss these choices with their child, make changes if required, sign it and return it to the classroom teacher by Wednesday 1 November

2. Parents/Carers Reflections

If there are specific requests for student placement in 2024 that are not covered in students’ identification of learning friendships, you can make a request in writing to the principal. Recognising the complexity of the process, I ask that your requests be limited to no more than three suggestions.  Any parent requests should be sent to the school email address rosanna.ps@education.vic.gov.au

The request should include ‘2024 Class Placement’ in the subject line and be received by Friday, 3 November. Any correspondence received after this date cannot be considered.

In shaping classes, teachers make every effort to consider all factors presented, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. All will be considered. It is important to note that requests for specific teachers cannot be accepted.

Our Tawny Frogmouth has a Friend

It was great to have students from 34J jumping up and down with excitement at recess earlier in the week with the discovery of a King Parent outside their window. We live in such a wonderful space connected to our natural world.
