Celebration of the Arts 2023 - final updates and requests

Thursday 2nd November from 5pm

Tomorrow is our 'Luminoso': our 2023 Celebration of the Arts evening.

We ask that all families are at school to take part in this unique community celebration. The event starts at 5pm, with performances commencing at 5:30. We will finish up shortly after 8:30pm.

We are really looking forward to seeing all of our families at school and our students in costume, sharing their creativity and learning from our Visual and Performing Arts programs.

How the evening works

For those new to COTA, it works a little differently to a normal school performance and we seek your support to ensure that your child is in the right place at the right time.

Unlike a more traditional 'school performance', the student performances are broken up throughout the evening with breaks in between. Performances will take place on the stage in the quadrangle and seating will be available. We encourage you to take a seat for your child's performance and then move on to the Art Show to free up seats for parents of other year levels.  There will also be a variety of food and drink available and the opportunity to socialise with other families and enjoy the overall ambience of a SKiPPS event.

20 minutes prior to your child's performance time, we ask parents and carers to take their children to the Year 5/6 building to meet their teachers at the below times.

Families can then find a seat in the Quadrangle ready to watch their child perform. Students will wait ‘backstage’ with staff until it’s time to go on stage.

Foundation and Year 1/2 students will finish their performance on the basketball court. They will wait with their teacher to be collected.

Year 3-6 students will be dismissed by their teachers from the backstage area. Please arrange a location to meet your child after their performance.

Costumes

Thanks for the hard work and creativity displayed at home in creating your child's costume. A reminder of the costume themes;

Costumes for Foundation - Year 2

  • As the theme is light, we would like the Foundation and Year 1/2 students to wear rainbow colours as white light is a combination of all the colours in the colour spectrum.

Costumes for Years 3-6

  • As the theme is light, we would like students to wear black or dark blue t-shirt or top with something that can reflect light (sparkles, sequins, metallic fabrics etc. in any colours).

Volunteers needed

As well as the many amazing performances and the art show, a huge part of the success of the event are the food and drink stalls on the evening that turn COTA into a wonderful community event.

SKiPPA, our Parents' Association, are once again coordinating this part of the night and need a large number of parents to volunteer for a slot. We ask that all families make an effort to donate some time to the success of the evening.

The phrase 'many hands make light work' is completely true and having a wide range of parents help out mean that our amazing SKiPPA parents get some time to watch their own children perform and enjoy the evening.

There are still gaps on the roster - please sign up and help out at; https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B094BABA62EA3F85-45262830-celebration#/

Cake stall donations needed

Potentially the most delicious part of the night will be the cake stall and, as well as volunteers, we need as many baked goods as possible to sell on the evening.

Keep the kids busy tonight searching for (and preparing) recipes to bake for the cookies and cake stall at COTA this Thursday.

We ask those who are able, to provide some baked goods like slices, biscuits, cupcakes - anything that is easy to hold and eat!

Drop off your baked goodies to the Staff Room (via the Quadrangle) at drop off or pick up on Thursday Nov 2nd. The children love it and it helps make a festive evening.

Notes:

  • Label - Items must have the tag attached listing ingredients, date baked, full name of baker.
  • No fresh cream or raw egg - please avoid items that require refrigeration or might melt
  • Anyone who is able to cook for dietary needs is particularly invited to do so but must be very sure that if they say an item is for instance dairy free, then it actually is completely dairy free (parents we request that you please supervise your children with dietary needs when choosing an item to eat if required).
  • Delivery of your items to the Staff Room on Thursday morning is preferable
  • Please deliver items in a covered container clearly labelled with your full name as they will be returned to the Kitchen Dining Room for you to collect after the cake stall.
  • If you have any questions, please email SKIPPA directly: stkildaparkparents@gmail.com
  • Thank you to all those able to help.
